On my way back to Sydney have a 20 hours layover in Doha, landing at 00.15 AM on a Monday morning in early October. Ideally, I would like to take few hours rest in a hotel and see a little of the Doha, befor returning to the airport for my flight to Sydney at 20.00.
Any recommendations for a 'late-arrivals-friendly' hotel in Doha?
Any recommendations for Doha - city tours?
Thank you.

There is the airside Oryx hotel, which would be the most efficient to kip in, but its very expensive at about $400/night. It has a pool etc. Not sure how your checked bags would go; probably held OK but you'd need to make sure.

Not far from the terminal landside is the Oryx Rotana. Ah - Used to be run by QR but I see its now the Hyatt Regency Oryx Doha. They probably still run a shuttle to the airport terminal.

Are you flying QR to QR? If so, you may qualify for their free transit hotel:

QR used to run quick tours of Qatar city for transit passengers like you. Check out their web site. Museum of Islamic Art is good.

Thank you RooFlyer. I will contact QR and check whether I quality for a QR free accommodation in Doha.

I used to frequently arrive in Doha around that time and used to stay in the DoubleTree by Hilton Doha - Old Town. It used to be about a 10 minute taxi ride away from the airport, but walking distance to the Museum of Islamic Art and Old Town.

I stayed at “Kingsgate hotel”. Arriving similar time to you three years ago.
It was good from memory and the reception gave us some cash to pay the taxi as he did not take card.
I think it was relatively cheap and well located near Souq Waqif.

In the morning plenty to do and see close by on foot before Ubering back to airport for a mid arvo departure.

Stay as close as possible to Suq al Waqif, then have a wander around the next day. Have lunch at that wonderful Parisa Persian restaurant in the middle of the souk, both decor and food are amazing!

Thank you all for your thoughts. I'm traveling on a mixed class QF reward ticket:
SYD-PER-LHR-WAW with QF in business class
WAW-DOH in economy & DOH-SYD in first class
I've just called Qatar Airways and was told that because it is a QF ticket. QR can't see the details of my fare therefore they are not sure whether I am or I am not eligible for a complimentary hotel in Doha. The QR representative suggested that upon arrival at the Doha airport I go to the Qatar Airways desk and seek further help there.
This is not very convenient because if I'm not eligible, I will be very limited with options, given the time of arrival, (00.10AM.)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Few days ago I called QR again to try to claim complementary transit accommodation in Doha. Got the following response today:

After reviewing the reservation under reference number *****, we would like to inform you that your booking is entitled to Paid transit accommodation in Doha. Please complete the payment through one of our offices or customer contact centers, not less than 03 days prior to the scheduled time of departure for your original flight on the route for which you are applying for the hotel accommodation during transit.
Service Charges (per person for each STPC use)
Premium USD 150
Mixed Cabin USD 150
Economy USD 125

So, it is now clear that I'm not eligible for complementary hotel in Doha. The above offer is not attractive at all. I think I can do better finding a hotel myself. I would appreciate suggestions for a hotel for late check in (probably around 3.00AM) and check out in the afternoon. Thanks.

+1 for the recommended hotels on the paid "discoverqatar" stopover?
