Noticed this offer on QF website this week, never before have I seen such an open offer from QF that covers all economy award flights for May and June - I am wondering if something is in the pipeline re a revamp of the program again?

If I were a betting man, I'd say somebody is out to reduce that particular liability on the balance sheet prior to June 30.

I think people simply aren't wasting (sorry, spending) their points domestically; thereby stuffing up QF's balance sheets. Qantas are trying to encourage their use.

Why spend 24,000 points (12,000 one way) and $77 ($38 ) on an Award MEL-BNE when the same (plus Point/SC earn) can be had for $237 ($119)?

IMO 24,000 points (12,000) points can be used far more efficiently than saving $160 ($81).

I was thinking it was because fewer people would be taking holidays in May and June, being winter and all. But maybe I'm not suspicious enough.

I use my points for dometic upgrades to business. As far as I can see that is the best use for them.

What are other peoples thoughts on this?

Its interesting to note that a few years back they had a promotion that ended 30th June that was to encourage people to transfer Amex point to QF FF points, thus increasing the points ballance. But I expect the revenue gained by Amex paying QF for the points was more strategic than the FF points liability on the books.

Well I remember it, a 20% bonus on points transferred at a time when I had around 100k Amex points sitting idle....

Back in the day of 'Qantas Bonus Points' from Amex. Sigh.....

Concur with your reasoning above.
