Yes it is on again, the Canberra Airport Open day.

The Canberra Airport Open Day is on again on Sunday 25 March from 9:30am to 1:30pm, and will feature loads of aircraft displays and children's activities. Come and climb aboard a Qantas, QantasLink, or Virgin Australia plane, or take a step back in time with a display from the Historical Aircraft Restoration Society.
Plus the hearts of aviation enthusiasts will also be kept racing with a low-level aerobatic display by one of Australia's top pilots, Matt Hall. Find out more about Matt at www.matthallracing.com
There are also loads of children's activities and rides plus great food and entertainment for the whole family.

Aircraft on display include:
- Qantas 737
- QantasLink Q400
- Virgin Australia ATR 72
- Royal Australia Air Force Hercules C130-J
- Super Constellation “Connie”
- DC3/C-47
- Neptune Bomber
- Catalina flying boat
- Caribou
- Many more small aircraft and warbirds
Parking is free in Brindabella Business Park – just follow the signs to 'Airport Open Day'.

Always a good day if you're going to be in the region.

I'll be flying out at 06:40 am so will miss the fun.

Hope to be there with my boy... Have never knowingly seen an AFFer before - will have to keep my eyes peeled!

Here's a interesting description of FTer's/AFFer's:

But here's the thing. Think for a minute what a group of frequent flyer junkies actually look like. Go on, I dare you. Try hard. Imagine you got mugged by a group of them and you had to describe their appearance to the police.

Well for one, if you did get mugged by a serious FT'er at least you'd know that they would leave the cards which were useless in terms of mileage bonuses. You'd probably get little post it notes left in your wallet, with the cash still there and the note saying "you loser, do you know how many miles you are not earning with this piece of cough plastic?"

Or something like that.

So back to the description of the group. The police officer says..

"How many were there?"
"About 30…"
"Really, 30?" says the man with the gun
"Yes" you say
"And how many males?"
"About 29"
"And what did they look like? Fat, skinny, tall, short?"
"Yes to all" you respond
"What do you mean, "yes to all?""
"Exactly what I said. Some were Fat. Skinny. Tall. And Short"
"And what else?"
"Ugly…"
"Ugly?" quizzes the cop
"Yes, man, they were the sorriest group of ugly buggers I have ever seen"
"In fact, I don't want to even file a report. I want to make a donation to their cult"

Or something like that.

And let's face it - since we're all friends, we may as well be honest with each other. Standing side by side and all in a group, we're not the prettiest things to look at. In fact, some of us have faces only our mothers could love. I said "could love". Not "do love".

And don't get me started on our physical condition. ...

Yeah I just mentioned the word airplane to my daughter and she was keen... I think she likes planes more than I do...

I've just sent a PM, see if we can get an AFF group meetup?

May be there with HWMBO.

I was thinking of grabbing a hot drink / snack in the virgin lounge first then heading over about 930 :)

well this was a good day, ended up doing the salvos scenic flight wth QF this afternoon... (nabbed the last two seats) will post up "trip report" shortly :D

Had a good look around today. Got to have a look around the 737-800 coughpit and Pilot Sam was happy to give a brief explanation of the main instruments. The aircraft was VH-VZY which was delivered earlier this month. Turns out the Virgin ATR that was on display is yet to enter service.

I queued for ages to get on the 737-800 only to be told at the top of the stairs that the coughpit tour was full which was a little disappointing, but oh well.. The virgin ATR staff were great and friendly - had a long chat with the guy sitting in row 1 (in non cabin crew uniform). The ATR was brand spanky new after a long delivery flight. I liked the makeshift stairs at the front cargo door. All in all a really good day, although I'm a little sunburnt as a result :(

Grrr - I was wanting to do that but was sold out by the time I got there :P Oh well I went running this afternoon anyway - probably better for me lol. Look forward to your TR tho.

Also, anyone who has ever complained that Priority Boarding doesn't work well should have lined up for the static displays today ... unfortunately neither airline was demonstrating their PB systems - these would have been really appreciated :P heheh j/k
