I am flying SYD-PVG and 3 days before I have a chance to do a status run to get me to PS. Will 3 days be enough time for the Silver benefits to be in effect when I fly to PVG?

cheers!

How many SC's do you need?

From personal experience QF flights do post very quickly and your new status should appear once you have gotten the SC's posted.

I need 105 and was thinking about doing SYD-ADL on JASA. This has been about the cheapest way I can figure out.

Yes, but the Silver Benefits are not really worth it. Unless you know your going to make SG or WP, don't bother with status runs for PS and instead put the money into a QP membership (if you don't already have one)... For international flights that gets you the international J lounges, far more valuable IMHO...

Now that the status bonus has been upgraded to 50% it might be if you are doing a bit of international travel that adds up.

Yes and no, an extra 50% points on a SYD-PVG prob wouldn't refund the cost of a JASA... But the extra SC's might be worth it if SG or WP is within reach...

I don't think I fly enough to justify $840 (or $660 if I join Gold here) on QP. Getting to Silver is considerably cheaper.

I may be misreading your post, but silver status with QF doesn't get you QP access. (I think you may get one pass.)

ah, really - I must have misread the website. Well you're probably right then - there's no point in trying to get to silver.

Sounds like you might make it anyway eventually but it isn't worth rushing it unless you really need one of the few benefits. SYD-PVG return will net 70SC in discount Y from memory. When does your year run out?

You do still get a one time QF lounge pass with silver FWIW.

SYD-PVG is a classic award seat so no SC earned. Not having to wait in the economy check-in queue would be pretty good though.

Why not just do online check-in and drop your bags at the web check-in counter?

There's no way I'd burn 48k minimum points (Syd Adl JASA) just to get Silver. I don't know if you're doing exclusively international flying but business check in for Silver is only available for international flights, not domestic.

yeh - I canned the idea. Agreed not worth it - better off aiming to accumulate 150,000 points for QP membership.

my suggestion would be to can that QP membership idea too ;)

150K can do alot of fun things, like a simple AUS to Asia return in business class or a quasi-RTW QF OneWorld Award in economy with 5 stops (upto 16 segments, less than 35K miles trip). Any of these type of fares easily work out to be over $2k net, whereas a QP membership is $880 or so.
