Mid next year I am moving to New York for a year to do my masters, before I begin I am planning a road trip for around 3 months (mid May- mid August) and am looking at my options. Since I will only be 22 I know there will be an extra cost for that, I also want full insurance. I would pick up and drop off in the same location, most likely New York City although I can travel and pick up elsewhere. I want a nice car for the trip, 4 doors is essential though, Cadillac Escalade, Dodge Charger, Jeep etc

I don't have a fixed budget yet but around $6000 seems to be what I should expect.

I am Hertz #1 Club Gold however am not fixed on renting from Hertz. I want to rent from a company that will give me loyalty points of some sort to redeem free bookings during my year in New York or credit for airline miles.

Any suggestions or past experiences would be great.

Is it easier just to buy a car?

I did think about that but isn't that more hassle for a foreigner than it is work.

Hertz will happily do a long rental

Chevy Malibu

Total Approximate Charge 4922.00 USD

If you want something bigger, as you did mention, then yes about $6k

I'm also planning a 3 month driving trip around the USA, want to do it as cheap as possible of course... I would consider buying a car, does any one have any experiences they could share? I'm worried about it bombing out, where as with a rental you're covered for stuff like that.
