3 X WP's in one family.

Having just done the massive RTW on a ONE ticket all Fclass my wife thanks to her trip to Europe earlier in the year gained WP status.
My twelve year old was 20 sc short and I was some 60 points short. (SC's expire 30th September)
So on Saturday my son and I had a JASA SYD-CBR-SYD in J class booked. (went down on QF787 and back on same 20mins later QF 704 the FA'S thought that that was sensational when given the explanation)
Thankfully we are now all on WP status...that must be some sort of record for a 12 year old...

Congratulations but I think it might be more common than you think. Our daughter held QFF WP status for two years from the age of three (which meant we had three WPs in the family) and a check-in agent once commented on it. I asked if it was rare to have a three year old WP (expecting that it might be) and was told that it is actually fairly common.

It is an awesome effort regardless, so congratulations to both you and excell.

I never got Mrs LW to those heady heights and I doubt she wants to get there until after the kids leave home.....which could be a while :shock:

It’s actually pretty easy Lindsay, as you know . Just one well planned DONE4 a year with the help of a few of the experts on this forum and you’re sorted. These days though we’re directing our flights to EK and VA and QF WP seems like a distant memory...

Have to agree it's common.

As a family of 5 we are all going to hit WP over Christmas - youngest one is 8.

And if we knew what we were doing with award re-demptions earlier then the kids would have hit the target at about the age of 3.

I think it's only a matter of time before they make the mark harder - the lounges are overcrowded and therefore, the overall service levels and status feel is dropping fast.

When you have truck drivers (FiFO miners) hitting & exceeding the WP1 level then things are bound to change.

Maybe the only thing that will hold of the inevitable is a surging Virgin offer that appears very attractive and offers first class competition at long last.

I hope Mr Borghetti, has a stella career and shows his past masters what they let go.

When you have truck drivers (FiFO miners) hitting & exceeding the WP1 level then things are bound to change.

That sounds remarkably snobbish. Being Platinum or WP1 isn't dependent on class - it's dependent on how much you fly. No earthly reason a truck driver shouldn't be WP1 if they fly enough - and them being WP1 doesn't devalue it for anyone else.

My point was not a focus on the type of person that accrues the points/status but on the numbers that are accruing them. I'm all for seeing high vis shirts in the lounges - I'm one of them.

When the lounges are choc a block and you have to compete for seats, food, drinks, papers, computers, etc,etc then the whole point of status = rewards is lost.

Maybe the solution is to build WP1 access only lounges, lose the suits and let the real accumulators enjoy the benefits.

I don't agree with your conclusions.

If there is a big mining boom with massive numbers FIFOing then the lounges need to be expanded using some of the excess cash. They don't need to decrease the numbers to keep the same total membership.

There's no reason they can't just remove SC earn from the FIFO contracts if it's causing them that much pain. I doubt it is though.

The money used for FIFO tickets is the same money that anyone else uses to purchase a ticket, there should be no reason why they should punished and have beneifts removed.

It is normal to remove SC earning for many companies. No reason FIFO shouldn't be any different if the company wishes.

Agreed 100%. But this shouldn't be the case just because WP's want "less crowded" lounges.

Many public servant contracts with qantas exclude the earning of QFF points; however SC's are earned.

Yep, points can definitely be excluded - but I was under the impression that Qantas won't agree to contractractually excluding SCs - I was surprised to see people claiming lots of companies do this.
