Pity those dates don't really suit at this stage:-|

Nup... I still could not justify paying more for J MEL-PER-MEL than discount whY MEL-LHR-MEL

Yeah, I'd suspect this wouldn't help them much. If business people stop flying due to corporate policy or business need, a reduction like this won't change things. And Joe public, who might be willing to pay more for a bit of luxury I suspect will still find the amounts offered ($1179 one way) to still be unappealing. I suspect it'll be more likely to just reduce yields from those who would be flying BC anyway.

Qantas should be well aware that not many business people are 'on the road' around year-end anyway..

Therefore they are hoping more come from Y to J than J to J..

I know of 1 person who has changed from Y - J directly because of this sale.

Great. It costs only marginally less to travel between BNE-MEL than BNE-PER in J.

In other words, both are still atrocious in price, although at least BNE-PER is more palatable now, if you so insist on ponying up the cost to travel between the coasts in comfort. (Paying about the same amount to go to MEL in J in cash, on the other hand, is   )

Oh, and from a status run point of view ;), still no good big time (you could cross the Tasman return for that amount, in J).

My thoughts exactly, anat0l. I have a trip next week to ADL and PER, but why pay for J when it probably means that as they aren't selling J seats on those routes, it stands to reason that there is also plenty of ODU seat availability.

Although I do have a decent budget for this trip, the only one I would pony up for is PER/BNE or vv (depending on which one I do).

Added @ 1.45PM - Well, necessity made me have to buy an I fare for $999 9/7 PER/ADL on QF584, there were no other seats available :o

Still, an all in cost for BNE/MEL/PER/ADL/BNE at $2,142 (L/L/I/K) isn't too bad...for 145 SC's (so $14.77 per SC).

Business is probably bad (business as in revenue thing, not the cabin), but still the only person who would be paying $1,299 for BNE/PER J would probably be a schmuck unless they were dipping into the company purse or had it as part of a greater J ticket (e.g. DONE4)

It's due to a lot of the mining types not doing as much travel these days. I know BHP/Rio is certainly not doing the same level of travel they previously would have done.

J award availability PER-eastcoast (to get to the NZ Do in Dec) was a whole lot better than TransTasman......

ended up via BNE
