Velocity Frequent Flyer is now offering 30% off the points required for Velocity Reward Seats in Business class, as well as UpgradeMe Points upgrades. The discount is applied automatically, and is available for bookings and travel until 24 October 2020.

You could say that the discount reflects the reduced service currently offered in Business on VA flights.

If normal catering and service were to be resumed in J, I would be a lot more tempted by this. Until then I don't see 737 J as being worth it (for me at least) even with this 30% discount.

This has brought back memories of my first VA A330 J flight to Perth, only about 25,000 points thanks to one of these promotions. :)

Per VFF's email today:
"Stretch your legs in Business Class and enjoy priority screening, priority boarding and increased complimentary baggage allowance. For the time being, Virgin Australia lounges remain closed and inflight catering is limited to water and complimentary snacks.

Get 30% off the Points amount required to redeem for Business Class Reward Seats and UpgradeMe Seats when you travel on Virgin Australia domestic flights to some of our most popular Australian destinations*. "

No lounge, no onboard catering, likely no priority screening due to low pax numbers. It doesn't sound appealing.

Good for social distancing if there’s two of you plus if you’re in row 1 no one will sneeze in front of you.

I can understand no lounge access in Sydney, Melbourne and maybe Adelaide but something should be done for Perth and Brisbane where there’s a bit more intrastate action. Even if there was no alcohol service it would at least be a space to wait in. Hopefully VA will extend status further for the period the lounges remain closed.

I almost booked some flights after receiving the offer: have been looking at options for a couple of days.
But, not knowing whether it'll be the same poor experience on offer now, or an improved experience "sometime" when lounges and proper J service resume, has given me pause.
I'll most likely book QF (again!) whilst VA maintains its LCC-like offering. Time to straighten up and fly right VA, or you're just a red/white JQ. ☠️👎

My take - until Bain get the keys, and the airline leaves administration, it will probably be the way it is for now. I guess there is a reason they picked the 24th October as an end date for the promotion..

They could offer 50% off for J redemptions, it still doesn't change the fact that all you're getting is more spacious/comfortable seating on the flight. No lounges or in flight service renders virgins offering unappealing to me regardless of the price.

I just booked a Getaway fare and upgraded with points - def no 30% discount applied - 10,000 points each way. What gives there?

I was trying to update my tickets using points but I am not sure if the 30% discount was applied. I haven't made any bookings in more than 6 months so not sure if 7400 per pax is the discounted points for upgrade from MEL-OOL . TA

Row 3 works fine for me at cheapie rates if no lounges, and cut back in flight offerings!

We will get centre seat blocked for a while yet with the light loads i suspect.

And it's for travel until 31 December 2020...

That must be a joke/someone seriously unaware of the current proceedings in Australia. How can they even expect to people coming out of lockdown/restrictions to have such limited time to book the tickets.

I believe it must be 31 Mar 2021 atleast so it gives majority of VFF members to make use of this offer.
