Hi have been reading here for a few days as i'm looking to take the family on a nice holiday middle of next year, Hawaii hopefully.

Anyway i have the opportunity to be able to buy altitude points at $0.008 each or 3000 for $24.30.

Now i have never used velocity rewards before to book a flight and just wanted some input from you seasoned professionals ;-)

I've looked on the velocity website and it says 57800 points one way business to Honolulu or 115600 return.
Checked the flights on virgin website and they are around $2800 one way or $5600 return.
Now i can purchase that many points for $936.36 (not purchasing anything just straight swap cash for points) and i should also be able to get the 15% velocity bonus at the moment bringing that down to $795.91.
Not sure were i stand on the extra 15% off flights, whether these flights would be eligible or not.

Do these calculations seem alright or is there something i have missed badly?

Thanking you.

Don't forget that 2 Altitude points convert to 1 Velocity point, so your costs are only one way - still seems very cheap though! How are you able to purchase Altitude points at that price?

Ahh thanks so that puts a little dent in my plans regarding the 2 altitude to 1 Velocity point.

I would be leaving from Brisbane i think i have read the tables that you linked wrong i just went to first table and looked at business up to 4800 miles.

Even if business is not available on HA awards, it's really not much to write home about. More like premium economy on many airlines. You get a bit more recline, better food, free digiplayer/video options, a bit more legroom, but no lay-flat seat. So if you end up flying to/from HNL in economy, it's not pleasant, but it's survivable.

Dunno, would you mind detailing:

- how you are able to buy Altitude points; and

- how they are so cheap?
