Hi everyone,

I have had to cancel a planned trip to the US and Canada next month where I had intended to use around 400k KF miles, the bulk of which are expiring at the end of this month. Because of that cancellation, the miles have been credited back to my KF account and I cannot envisage any opportunities to use them between now and the May next year due to the limited availability for SQ reward seats at the moment and not having firm dates for my relevant plans. The question is, am I better off using the one time extension for the approximately 360k miles that are expiring (at a cost of approximately USD 432/AUD 670) or transferring to Velocity for use on QR J?

Other important considerations are that I currently have 300k Velocity points and 410k Amex Membership Rewards that I am considering transferring to Velocity for the 20% bonus before the end of the month. How easy have members found it to redeem Velocity points for QR J?

If you know you are going to travel from June to late next year and will book SQ, definitely worth paying the extension fee for it.

You can use krisflyer Miles to extend instead of cash !

This is potentially advantageous if your future redemptions are likely to leave a small amount of orphan miles and you have no plans to get more KF miles in the future. However, if you intend to keep collecting KF miles and make future redemptions then the dollar equivalent for miles spent on extending (1 cent per mile) is not good value.

Question for the experts here... if one has 140K miles expiring say end September 2023, and books NOW (September 28), 2 x SYD-SIN Biz class tickets now, for June 2024, costing near that number of points, what occurs if you pay the ($75pp?) cancel fee for that booking in May 2024?

The 140 k miles will presumably go back into the account, but when will THEY expire? In June 2024, or 2 years later etc?

They will already have expired and be lost for ever - and not even be capable of being extended for a fee.
