I have used Qantas points for AA business return from Dallas. I have only 48 minutes from AA2303 from DFW arriving to AA73 from LAX to SYD.

Because this was the only flight available I just purchased it. My concern is the domestic flight arrives at the AA terminal but the international is then TBIT. As I recall there is a small walk. Is there an additional security level to get to the AA73 departure point? I assume there is.

Thanks in advance for anyone who has undertaken a similar AA transfer at LAX.

No additional security screening, just a 5-10 min brisk walk if you follow the signs correctly. Of course that does not help if the inbound arrives late.

Is it all one booking/ticket? or a separate ticket?

Im assuming that AA2303 is not an American Eagle flight which uses a remote terminal accessible from T4 or T5 - no chance if this is the case.

If it is an AA flight (which i think it is), then it is an easy 10 min walk to get from T4 to TBIT and no security, as there is a airside connection between the 2 terminals.

If AA2303 is not delayed, you will be OK. If it is delayed you could miss your flight. Note that boarding for AA73 would likely have commenced by the time AA2303 arrives.

I suggest after booking the ticket, try to see if you can be changed to an earlier flight out of DFW.

If you have QF status equivalent to oneworld Emerald, you might (emphasis on the might) be able to do a "free same-day flight change" to an earlier flight. This is a benefit for AA's Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum members and possible they extend to oneworld partners.

The gate agents out of LAX did this for me one time flying to MIA as a QF WP.
