I'll preface this post by admitting that I have no idea how much pet insurance normally costs, but this deal might be of interest to some.

Petinsurance.com.au is offering 5,000 bonus Velocity points for new pet insurance customers this month. They insure dogs and cats.

According to the offer T&Cs, you need to apply by 30 September. The points will credit after 90 days, so you will need to keep the policy for at least 3 months.

Just did a quick check, and indoor cat cover is as low as $24/month (might be lower depending on breed, or for dogs).

I don't have a pet but you get 3 pts/$ on the coverage so that could be ~5200 pts for less than $75 if you played it right.

It looks like the promo code TAKE25 still works also, which bring it to less than 20 dollars a month. I am not sure if it makes you ineligible for the bonus points though.

It would probably take 4 months of cover to get the points, which for my pooch would be $120 for 5360 velocity points. I’m torn on whether that is worth it, considering I spent ~$16 for 30000 qantas points through the life insurance promo.

I have been tossing up on whether to apply for this as well. I noticed there is a similar offer from Flybys that might be more attractive. It is 10k flybuys through medibank (which with my calcs is 4,350). I plugged in the costs for my cat (2yr old male), and 3 months is $16 monthly.

Still not great. But another option if anyone is looking for pet insurance already

(Note: I haven't weight up the pros/cons of each policy though, so not recommending one over the other).

(Note2: I notice the underwriter is Hollard for both policies...)
