I remember having one of those there Qantas Telstra cards.....

The loyalty/airline/banking/telecoms landscapes have changed much over the years. I wonder if we will look back in ten years time to now and marvel about how generous the program was in 2007 :)

I still have mine here in my top drawer. In fact, the Telstra Telecard function of it is still active on my home phone account.

So is mine. Closing the ANZ card didn't seem to close that. Each month I get a line on my bill about how I haven't used it!

Most likely....

I still use the telecard; original a/c long gone.

I had over 1million of those there points; IIRC they converted to QFF at 4:1 ... I got over 250K points out of that.

I can remember getting 6 pts per $ on my ANZ VISA QF Gold card uncapped on all purchases. One time I hired a Lancer on mini lease (3 month) from Thrifty at $1,000/month on my small business. The double dip from them was a bonus 8 pts pr $. Hence I was making 1,000 x 14 = 14,000 QF points per month on the car alone.

Similarly bought two laptops for a client one time and made something like 80,000 in one transaction (enough for two people to go SYD Jakarta return).

Those were the days...especially before the big points dilution back in 2002 (2003?) - earn points on km not miles AND half the current redemption rates in some cases - SYD-CNS-SYD for about 36,000 in J class instead of 72,000,etc etc...

Still use the Telecard although rarely, last September I was awarded a huge 11 points.:D

17 SEP 07 TELSTRA TELECARD 17SEP07 ---11

Interesting status scheme back then....

Status Qantas International Qantas Domestic Blue 60,000 15,000 or 20 flights*,whichever is sooner Silver 180,000 45,000 or 50 flights*,whichever is sooner Gold 300,000 75,000 or 80 flights*,whichever is sooner
If that's km flown....I think I like the current scheme better!

Which I intend to keep up my sleeve to keep my QF FF account active just in case I don't have any other activity before the points expire.

Yes, it was km flown. I maintained my Gold status back then with >80 flights each embership year. I used to love going to CBR then as it was a 4 flight round trip ;) .

I was top level (Gold) by dint of the 80 segment rule. (Domestic)

It's interesting as we cough and moan about the QFF program but the benefits now seem almost better than then - most the F lounge access and lounge access for second tier rather than just top tier... interesting when we think of the enhancements that many suffered.

I think the only thing missing now is the domestic upgrade certs - now a loss for some of us ;)

Back then, 80 flights, irrespective of booking class would give the punter top tier Gold. (equiv to Plat/Emerald)

Wow just thinking that through it was better wasnt it - 80 flights SYD-MEL would now earning 800 SCs in whY-

Hmm not enough for WP... or EXP ;)

Depends how you look at it I guess. By December this year, I shoud be Plat. At those earning rates, I probably wouldn't have made silver, let alone Gold in the old scheme.

Sure the upgrades are a big loss, but lounge access for SG's (equivalent to the old Silver), and F Lounge access for WPs (equivalent to the old Gold) is a big benefit IMO. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

Looking at these earning rates, a more appropriate summary may well be that the system has changed significantly and is 'better' for some and 'worse' for others.

I guess my poorly made point was that we constantly hear about the terrible situation with the QFF program and every time there is a change/impending change/assumed change/slight gust f wind from Mascot is that the sky is falling in and tin hats are distributed throughout the community - this shows that not all change necessarily is bad :)
