I'm thinking to check out Vientiane as I've not been. Flights to Udon Thani with Air Asia from BKK are ridiculously cheap. Certainly beats what Laos Airlines are charging for a direct flight, and well I do wonder how safe their planes are

I'm thinking to head up on a Friday and then leave on a Wed, Would that be enough time to see the sites there n maybe do a day trip or 2 outside the city?

If anyone who's been has some tips on things to do, hotel recommendations would be greatly appreciated

I only spent 2 days in Vientiane and that was perfect for me, it is a very sleepy city. Half the time in cafes and the like you will need to wake the person up to get them to serve you, after they have taken your order they might be 'resting' again and may need to be prodded to grab it from the kitchen! It has a great atmosphere for wandering the streets, we went and checked out the main boulevard and a couple of other things but didn't feel the need to stay more than the 3 nights.

I stayed there for 2 nights and that was enough. Did a half day tour of the city from one of the drivers on the street and just hung around the rest of the time. You may want to consider flying up to Luang Prabang for a couple of days to stay amused.
