And you get those points once you spend $4000 in 3 months so not hard to acheive.

If only I didn't have one already:(

Debating whether to 'invest' $900 or not... compared to the Amex Ultimate 50,000 point promo this offers comparatively low value per point, but then again the flexibility of MR. I assume 50K MR points can be transferred to QF 1:1? Or was that wiped a year ago with the direct earn card BS?

Plat cards can still transfer to QF 1:1.

Remember that with this card you can get a Plat credit card with the associated free flight for free. You also get an exceptionally good travel insurance package and you do not need to use the charge card for the travel insurance to be valid.

Plat charge cards and their associated credit cards can still transfer to QF 1:1.

As the OP was asking about the Charge Card I assumed it was given I was referring to the charge card.

One of the higher signup offers that I've seen from Amex.

Bah! If only I wasn't already a Platinum card holder. :( I spend about $4000 a month, so getting that $4000 in 3 months would be no issue.

I just received an offer from AMEX for a Plat Charge Card for $450 for my first year.... with free Plat C/C of course (which I already have).

Flashware, did you receive the offer via a mail out or phone call? I'm thinking of moving to this card and would be interested to know how best to try and receive this offer.

I received the mailout as well for this - you can apply online at www.americanexpress.com.au/bluemoon_offer - whether or not it'll be accepted if you weren't included in the mailout I can't say for sure, but doesn't hurt to try. :D

Mailout, and e-mail. As per previous post you can access via the link also.

Thanks for the info and the link. I haven't been targetted, so might just give them a call and see if they will extend the offer to me.

Watch out! A friend told me that instantly after he hit the spend threshold for this offer (only) 42,000 bonus points posted.

they posted 42500 on mine... and Amex is currently investigating it.
:lol:At least now i know that I'm not alone...

They must have confused it with the Ultimate promo which is 5k for 1st spend followed by 42500 upon spending $4000, with a further 2500 points when you purchase with Qantas.

If confusion is the cause, I would expect the 5k for my first spend... But of course, I did not get the 5k.

It is just another usual AMEX points trick... In any event, I downloaded the promotion for my record.

PS: When I lodged the complaint, the AMEX girl told me that no promotion was advertised on Platinum Charge and advised me that the bonus points was to get 1.5 points per $1 spent..... Of course she changed her statement after I said that I have the advertisement in front of me

Well there is no statement in the terms and conditions which says you need to have been invited to use the promotion.

I think you will be fine (see above)
Depending on what you do with the points you might be better off with the 50,000 points offer.

For an extra $450 you get 50,000 points.
LAX return is 96,000 QFF points.
To buy a return ticket you will pay ~$2000
So paying the full price for the card does not seem too bad.
