50% bonus on Virgin America Elevate points

Just got an email from VX saying that they are offering 50% bonus points on point purchases until March 8.

Elevate points cost USD52 per 1,000, but redemptions are very good value. 10,000 points is enough for a SYD-MEL return trip with VA in Business class. During the current promo those points would cost USD364. SYD/BNE/MEL-PER in J would cost USD936 return. Well under half price.

I had a quick look and couldn't actually find any specific terms or conditions that would rule out new members from taking advantage of this. Perhaps join up and see what happens?
