Thanks for posting! Out of interest, which type of American Express Card(s) do you hold?

Re: 50$ off with Thrifty with minimum 2 days renting

I suspect, given the validity dates, that this was for the Amexnetwork Amex and Virgin weekly deals promotion that ran last year.

platinum edge

Interesting. I have a Platinum Edge and have recently flown Virgin, but have not heard of this offer! Did you receive it via e-mail? Recently?

I forgot to say, welcome!

Re: 50$ off with Thrifty with minimum 2 days renting

intense googling :) that's how I found it.
and it's valid until end of April, too bad I rent a car last week end :( I did a test and seems to be working. I can't see anything when booking where you can prove you just booked with VA...weird
Still not sure if thrifty acceps AX or not though.
Thanks for the welcome ;)

The 5 day $75 offer is better value if you can fit 5 days in!

Re: 50$ off with Thrifty with minimum 2 days renting

it's 85$ ! yeah I agree a lot better, but if you want only a week end you will pay 1 day instead of 2 :) still good and cheaper than $85

Re: 50$ off with Thrifty with minimum 2 days renting

Pretty sure I've always paid with Amex. And they wouldn't be offering something like that if they didn't accept Amex for payment!

Re: 50$ off with Thrifty with minimum 2 days renting

sure, but maybe they do charge 1.5% for paying by credit card, that's on the FAQ of thrifty website

Are there any additional charges to the rental?
Any additional charges such as Young Driver surcharge, Premium Location Surcharge (as known as Airport Recovery Fee), Vehicle Registration Recovery Fee, Administration Fees and optional extras are all included in your Quote at the time of booking. Other extras such as refuelling or our Pre-paid Fuel service may be applicable at the completion of your rental. A surcharge of 1.5% will apply when paying by credit card.
The 1.5% is calculated on the amount debited on your credit card. The owner of the credit card must be present at the time of vehicle collection. Cash payment is an accepted payment type, however a security bond will be required. Please ask our friendly counter staff for further information.

I'm not sure what you're getting at - the website says there will be a credit card surcharge and in the absence of details to the contrary, I would expect the surcharge to be the same, whether you use a mastercard/visa, or amex.

One thing to note - the surcharge of 1.5% is subject to GST, so it effectively is a 1.65% surcharge.
