Platinum
I have had gold status for 2 years and the anniversary comes up end of April. I am 500 points short of platinum but the gold card had been sent to me two weeks ago. Is there way of getting those 500 points quickly and for good value? Appreciate suggestions.

Are you really wanting to do a status run for 500 SCs, or do you have any travel that you need to do and want to maximise the SCs?

Not knowing anything about your preferences.......

However JetStar still have some discounted StarClass going..which gets you Business Status credits at less than business prices.

ie Just hada look MEL-SYD-DPS & DPS-MEL on march 18 and 21 for example at $642 and $672 plus taxes...

If you flew this twice you would have your 500 or close to it..

A bit of date and destination surfing on the StarClass routes may get you a better earn...or two different destinations....perhaps as a weekend trip???

IMO 500 SCs is a bit much to do unless you have some other reasons for travel/points/lifetime status. Even on good deals you will be looking at least a couple of thousand dollars.

Now if you needed to travel long distance and could structure a RTW to get the extra SCs before your anniversary that may well be worthwhile.

the 2 grand you would just about have to spend to earn the points... it it worth if for F lounge access because thats about all it will get you over and above gold right ?

But hey why not if your keen :) people have done much crazier things around here !

Thanks everyone for your input. That was a crazy thought. And in hindsight, I dont believe there is too much more to be gained in platinum. Having gold renewed is good enough. To go up one notch over the next 12 months is more challenging.
Cheers

I should be sitting on 770 SC (when Jetstar and Qantas finally get round to crediting my Star Class points, *fingers crossed*) with 630 to go for Platinum.

Last year I got to 880 SC and regretted I didn't try harder to get the SC for platinum.

THis year I have until end Sept to get 1400 SC and I intend to go down trying!

To me its more than having F lounge access.

You get way better chances for international upgrades and its alot easier to book FF award tickets. You also get better seat allocation on domestic and international flights. Don't forget the double points your earn on QF flights!

7 months to get 630 SC... hmmmm.....

That's what it's all about for me too.
I fell 330 SC's short this year. Actually, that's not true...I have 9 days to get those 330 SCs...but no travel in those 9 days.

If I knew my travel plans for 07 way back in Feb 06, I could've given up 10 SCs, signed up for QFF several months later, and made Platinum by April this year. Oh well..there was no way to know.

Will try my hardest this year though. :) At least it looks like re-qualifying for gold will be easy enough.

Cheers,
- Febs.

I am just waiting to hear from my boss as to whether I will have the opportunity to pick up WP during this year (in addition to AA EXP) - not something I would do a MR for.

To the OP - 500 is a huge amount to pick up in a short space of time without a real justification - dont forget though that QF sometimes comp people to requalify to WP without the required SCs...

Since the OP is currently gold that won't apply this year.

I have basically done the same thing but have spread the burden over 3 overseas trips. My goal is to get to lifetime Gold, but still a long way from the target.
