This has obviously passed me by as I have only been on the older metal for a while... The new 737-800 I took ADL-SYD today had no IFE?

Had noted that on the older metal IFE was now free.. So what happened no more IFE on VA?

Not that I use it all that much, but it seems to be going a bit backwards.

There is a new IFE system coming, so new aircraft are being delivered with nothing until its announced/launched.

Hey! Just to back up markis's information the new 737-800's do not have IFE installed... yet. Live2air finished after it was installed on VH-VUN.

To know if your flight has Live2air or not just check to see if it has the "hump" on top of it. If you want some details these are the following aircaft without live2air equipped and never will be:

VH-VBU 737-700
VH-VUR 737-800
VH-VUS 737-800
VH-VUT 737-800
VH-VUU 737-800
VH-VUV 737-800
VH-VUW 737-800
VH-VUX 737-800
VH-VUY 737-800
VH-VUZ 737-800
VH-BZG 737-800
VH-YFC 737-800 - BSI
VH-YFE 737-800 - BSI
VH-YFF 737-800 - BSI
VH-YVA 737-800 - BSI
VH-YIA 737-800 - BSI

And all E190's and E170's, Pacific Blue ZK registered aircraft and selected virgin blue but in pacific blue paint aircraft.

Let's just hope the new IFE will be a great system and seatback :D.

I doubt any "new" IFE will be (integral like the new QF 73H's) seatback on these new aircraft; they would have to rip all the seats out and replace them with new ones.

They did that with live2air, what would stop them now? And plus i think they didn't have to change the seats for live2air they just built the system in to it.

the seats could be provisioned, or partly provisioned for an IFE system with the final bits just needing to be cut out. Could be done on a basis where current seats are removed and a new set installed with the system already installed and the seats which removed will have the system installed and the fitted to another aircraft.

One would assume the facility they are trying to get permission to use for new interior refits would be used for this also.

NZ refitted there A320/763 seats to have 9" Panasonic Touch Screens so it is doable.
Also NZ's 763 seats are slim line and still fit a 9" screen.

One would asume that DJ's new system would be inline with the NZ/Virgin Amercia systems.

They do need to hurry up and put AVOD on the TT fleet though they are almost one of the only carriers not offering AVOD/PTV's on the route.

TT Market without PTV
JQ - A320
DJ - 738
AR - A342
QF - 734 (Almost phased out)

TT Market with PTV
NZ - A320/77W/772/744/763
EK - 77W/A380
LA -A342
QF - A332/738(ZK)

I believe they replaced the seats - swapping the old out and new put in. It was more than just IFE; USB ports were installed etc. All done at the CHC facility.

It is possible the swapped out seats were refurbished to awaiting the next aircraft to get the treatment.
