Okay I got my upgrade 20 hours prior to take off. Is 11A any good?

Got told 16B and 16J are available, but cannot pre select till I get there to airport due to exit rows.

I am hoping 11A I can get out without bothering PAX next to me ... QF said it is as it's wide enough for a bassinet to be placed there.

Never been in upper deck, hope it will be FUN :D :D :D

Can anyone shed details in 11A? Sprucegoose I could not get 11K, someone else is in it

Well done on the u/g. Where are you flying?

11A better than 11K in any event due to position of lavatories (traffic/noise wise, though maybe not light wise)
The A/K seats are good due to side bins

Even if other person is flat out, the feet end is close to the floor so it is pretty easy to step over them. If upright there is plenty of room to squeeze by.

SYD-HKG on day flight (Yes yes I know, but I wanted it .... ) Seems like plane very empty?

Anyone else got any more experience in upper deck? Should I try to change to 16 or just leave it?

Some seat maps I saw show that FA's were in front of 11AB , I thought they were 16JK ...

Oh well!

There are a few things to be aware of being the front row of the upper deck:

  • Most services start form the rear on the upper deck, so you will be last to be served and it is possible a meal choice will have been exhausted by the time they get to you.
  • You will be about the last business class passenger to get off the plane as the upper deck clears from the rear.
  • Should be pretty quiet with minimal passing traffic.
  • Upper deck overhead lockers are not very deep, so you may have to leave larger carry-on bags on the coat locker down near the rear toilets. But you do have a side locker to put things in for access during the flight.

Hmm I didn't know they did that .... what about exit seats NM? Are they all good?

For an overnighter I would opt for Row 16 but a day trip SYD-HKG I would be happy anywhere upstairs but with a window preference due the side lockers.

But do keep in mind that there is no bad seat in business class.

I like that quote :)

I did a search on this on google, and found someone took a photo. I guess it looks like this

Well hopefully they still have food of what I want, I don't expect much (Lunch/Refreshment), but as I am a big foodie, I am excited. Maybe they will steal some from down stairs galley if they run out? :)

Row 16 is good for leg room and easy access to/from window seats, but limited access to side lockers.

Not concerned too much with the lockers, since I don't even know wht they look like. I will try to get Row 16 .... and if not, stick with 11A ... they wouldn't let me pre select as I am not WP or CL :(

Got a few Q's re:744's,

How does one find out which config will fly which route? I've made a redemption booking in J SYD-SFO next August for me and my mrs, and pre-selected row 17 A,B.

I know being on the upper deck all of them have the same config, but would be useful to know for future reference.

There's been a fair bit of feedback re: row 11 and 16, and i can see why. But how's row 17? Should i go with the other side instead (ie 17 J,K)

There's a slightly better pic of 11A/B here:

It's from a TR I found on A.net - 1100km/h In A Qantas Skybed?! Wow! (lots Of Pics!) — Trip Reports Forum | Airliners.net

I second the 17A/B query (although I suspect all non-bulkhead, non-exit row J seats are identical) as I'm in 17A on my next flight.

Love the photo. Thanks for finding that. I think there is def alot of room to jump the person in B :)

consider the sun as you fly as well, time of day and direction could decide which side of aircraft is preferable. personally like 23D.

cheers SPRUCE:mrgreen:

23D is my second choice for J seats on a QF744, running a close second behind 23F. Note 23D was my first choice with Dreamtimes, swapping to 23F with Skybeds.

I'll also put a word in for 23D.

Although, you should give the upper deck a go at least once.

Note that it's a lot easier to see down from 23A than it is from an upper desk window seat.

I had 16K last week MEL-SIN. I got the u/g and was very suprised to have been pre-allocated this seat. Surely it's sought after?! The flight wasn't full but wasn't empty by far.

On SeatGuru, 16K was said to have the staff seats infront but it turned out they were opposite 16A,B.

I really liked the seat would definitely aim for the upper deck again (all i've ever had though:mrgreen:).
