This year I've become enough of a frequent flyer to travel transcontinental more than twice a month.

So I am now experiencing a situation where the movies offered on the older aircraft repeat (1-16 and 17-31).

Thank goodness for iPads!

I was wondering if anyone else thinks that given the movies just on a VHS tape (767-338) or a DVD (767-336 / 73H) that QF could pretty easily rotate the films weekly, given the huge movie selection they offer on AVOD flights?

Thoughts?

For non-AVOD flights they tend to try to put something on which people are unlikely to have seen, but is likely to want to see.
I'd hazard a guess that the majority of their customers are not frequent flyers and thus this arrangement keeps them happy.
AVOD flights can have the huge selection as it still does include new releases, and it lets people chose which classics they would like to watch once they have seen all the latest releases.

I expect they figure most frequent flyers will have sorted out some sort of personal entertainment, as not all aircraft have some sort of on board entertainment.

The one that annoyed me was when they showed the exact same episode of two and a half men on MEL-CBR flights for 6 months straight... I virtually knew that episode word for word by the end...

IMO best way to get more variety, is to fly different airlines, so work your way through the Qantas main-screen & AVOD offers, then move over to Virgin's multi-channel & AVOD (digEplayer plus new A330), then move back over to Qantas again. The variety of service will also keep things from becoming boring. I much rather the airline provide me with entertainment, and only use my own as a last resort fall back position.

Fair enough.

It just doesn't seem like too much of a logistical challenge to change the movies more often when the news is changed twice daily.

Must be possible.

I must admit the crew are WAY better at noticing the tapes have ended and need switching now than they were a year ago ;)
