Having never been on an A380 before I don’t know what flight to choose

Both will be in economy with my kids
We’re travelling to Florida so the Dallas flight is a bit better as I hate going thru lax and the shorter flight to Orlando is better than the 5 hours from lax which we usually do

We usually fly with united to lax from Sydney
Is this the same plane that qantas use to Dallas?

Qantas use an A380 to Los Angeles but a 787 to Dallas

If your kids are smaller than an economy seat, then that negates the biggest issue of the 787 - its narrower seats.

They’re 6 and 9 and very small
Agree with downgraded.

The 787 has quite narrow seats, but if you’re sharing with two little ones, that shouldn’t be a problem. I would go with the 787, smaller aircraft, better cabin environment.

If 3 of you, you’ll share one block, But if the family is bigger, you’ll need to be split over rows.

Thanks there’s two adults and two kids
So it’s the same as united
We have to go 2 and 2

I would go with the A380 any day of the week. The 787 seating is very cramped compared to the A380 and I understand you have young children with you but even still every little bit helps. Plus, the A380 I always find to be a better ride than the 787.

The A380 also offers you the 4 seats in the middle of the cabin that you could hopefully get as a family of 4. I'd still disagree though that with small children the 787 would feel more cramped than the A380. The 787 definitely has better legroom, and its seats are definitely narrower, but with a small child occupying the seat next to you it's completely different. If you were travelling with adults the answer would be completely different.

380 any day. I'd go out of my way to avoid the 787.

Ditto. I've always found the 'environment' on a 787 much the same as A380. Still feel but like a zombie after a dozen hours on both, with the 380 much quieter. Perception or reality I don't know.
The 380 is quieter, and the cabin has almost the same differential pressure (though 787 is marginally better).

if your decision is simply based on plane comfort not LAX vs Dallas or other considerations then A380 economy class is far more comfortable than B787 economy class. Having said that , yes the little kids won't feel much difference in the narrower seats but depending on body size, the adults can feel cramped.

Not sure what others think but I am of medium/large build and find everything cramped on a B787.......aisles, toilets. I have heard cabin crew complain of narrow aisles

Personally the A380 for me, I find it's better in reducing my jet lag at the other end, and the window storage units are very handy to have.

Thanks everyone. I ended up booking both legs on the A380.
It ended up being quite a bit cheaper to go thru LAX insead of DFW, yes we will have a longer flight to MCO but we've done it before plenty of times.
The fact that there are 4 seats across is a bonus, so we don't have to sit next to a stranger each.
I'm quite excited to go on the A380 based on these comments. I've never flown Qantas internationally before so never had a chance to be on one of these large aircraft.

Good call. The A380 is very comfortable and lots of space to move about, and the self-serve bar area at the back is a nice place to stretch the legs without being in the way (as one often feels on the 787 and A330).

Have a good trip :)
