So I realized today that my race to Gold has been shattered because the double SC offer didn't apply to the flights I have booked for this month.

I will end up 80 short of SG on the renewal date of 1 May.

Is it worth spending $ and doing a status run ex Perth to get the extra SC?

Any thoughts / ideas welcome.

Of course the answer is ultimately up to you to decide. Gold is probably the best level worth chasing IMO, even over platinum. But really it depends on how much you intend to travel in the next year, if the answer is "enough to requalify to Gold", then yes definitely worth chasing , again in my opinion.

In my next year we are travelling PER-LHR return in paid J so automatically equality for Silver. My travel habits will probably remain the same - lots of Red-E-Deals upgraded to J using points... But the allure of the shinny gold card... Ooh it's tempting!

No cheap status runs out of Per though :(

You could book now on Qantas Perth to Hong Kong and select Per-Syd-HKG-PER you will get lounge in Sydney and also get to fly A380 deart from Perth currently for $1017.00 and buy duty free the better half

But if you have the Double SC offer, you just need to book a cheap return to the east coast or ADL, that'll net 20SC each way. PER-xMEL-ADL return looks a bit expensive from the quick search I just did. (but still only about $1000)

I'll leave the value to you. But an extra 25% points to LHR.

Ok there is this as flexi fares. Red-e-deal available for $712. Otherwise check what ASAs are available but might be slim pickings at this late stage.

Perhaps a positioning flight with JQ to MEL or ADL and onto some QF flights if you need to bring the price down?

It’s 700 to attain, but only 600 to retain, so it’ll be easier next year, and based on what you have this year, you’d do it.

I’m not sure if you’re QP, but automatically gaining free entry to the lounge will be a blessing if you don’t have access without upgrading to J as is. There’s the extra points too I suppose. Premium security.

I’d say Gold was worth it, but I see your problem with flights ex-PER.

With the DSC if you did the HKG trip, or any trip for that matter, you could straddle your re-qual date and the return could count for the next year. Helping you a little perhaps.

You could get to and from Darwin in a day for around 500, depending on your dates before the 30th. 20sc each way x2. Should get the 80 you need.

Can you bring forward the PER/SIN sector of your paid international ticket & travel on that prior to 30 April? That will earn you 100 SC so if you want to stay a couple of nights in SIN, it doesn't matter if your SIN/PER flight occurs 01 May onwards.

Then sign into the QF SIN website & buy a return airfare PER/SIN/PER. The PER/SIN sector would bring you back home then the SIN/PER would position you back to SIN to continue on with the rest of your J class planned trip.

When I priced fares ex SIN it comes up with QF72 Wed 02 May SIN/PER 2330/0440+1 SGD291.00 returning eg Sun 13 May QF77 PER/SIN 1155/1725 for SGD332.00 total airfare including taxes SGD623.00 (approx AUD485.00).

I just thought bigger it - and booked a JASA Perth Kalgoorlie return - 40 SC x 2 = enough for gold :)

My very first status run!
