Hi savvy travellers.

Anyone care to offer some advice on my situation.

I am 85 SC's off reaching GOLD with only a few non earning Jetstar flights booked between now and the expiry date of April 30.

I have a QF flight booked to LAX in early May which will earn me the required points but is just outside the expiry date for my current points. So has anyone had any luck requesting an extension on the expiry date of SC points?

Alternatively, would it be worth me booking a flight or two just to earn enough points? I travel SYD/HBT regularly albeit as cheaply as possible (i.e. non points earning flights). A return trip via MELB at full economy is worth 80 SCs which is approx $800.

Can these SC points be earnt any cheaper?

Cheers,
Mike

Business class Sydney to Canberra is available for $279 there and $277 back. That's 40 SC each way, so 80 in total - which leaves you 5 short.

dishwashhands, QF definitely will not give extensions to the 12 months.

A couple of options, as I see it:

1. Upgrade your JQ flights to JetFlex fares. Will you get enough SC's from your remaining flights to reach your 85 SC's?
2. Take odoherty's suggestion - it's cheaper than going full Y.
3. Do a SC run - look for cheap flights say using stevePER's site (see Qantas Ultimate Guide)

I suppose whichever one is the least expensive would be your best option. But a years' QC is definitely worth it (particularly the additional mileage earnt on the SYD/LAX/SYD flights)

Has StevePER's tool been updated lately?

JohnK also has a spreadsheet for working out $/sc - I think he keeps it up to date.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Will do some bargin hunting and see how cheaply I can rack up the required points.
