Last year I had some very helpful opinions from you all when I asked whether WP was really worth so much more to people than having SG status.
This was because I could foresee that I would come very close (a second time) to attaining WP but not quite make it before my SCs were reset.

Currently I require 120 additional SCs before the 28th Feb 2010 and I will have one flight earning me 30 in before that date and another of the same at the start of March.

From what I can see it would take flight/upgrade costs of close to $1000 to get those extra 90 SCs and for me that won't be worth it as a status run.

I know that lots of you regulars know your way around status run options like the back of your hand so I'm wondering if anyone could suggest a cheaper option for propping myself up to WP bearing in mind I am Perth based.

Thanks again!

Value has a different meaning to all of us.

Personally I would be booking PER-ADL-MEL-ADL-PER - 20+10+10+20=60

You mentioned that you are getting 30SCs from elsewhere.

Good luck - hurry up and get to it!

At such short notice you are basically nuked - unless you have the $1K!
Looking at the cheapest possible prices of the next 13 days:

red e-PER-SYD for $249 - 20 SC's
SYD-CBR in D for $346 - 40 SC's
CBR-SYD for $95 - 10 SC's.
SYD-PER for $249 - 20 Sc's.

There's your 90 SC's for $950!

(This assumes you can travel on any day at any time)

I would try very hard to get it if you are going to fly international a fair bit the following year. Much better chance in upgrades, first class lounges, etc.

I am having the same problem needing 460 by June but I am only going to get 250SC with my planned travel. I am going to do LAN J class MEL-AKL and trying to do MEL-PER with 1 leg in J if I can find a cheap fare.

How about a holiday to Bali in Jetstar Star class one way and points or Y back? One way Starclass to Bali set you back $1250.

Why spend $1250 when SYD-AKL-SYD on LAN in J will give the required points for only $700?

Good value individually but the OP needs to get to SYD from PER and then back, pushing the OP's cost to over $1,000 (and that to the OP isn't worth chasing 90 SC for).

Or cheaper if you get the absolute cheapest fare then do an On Departure Upgrade (I've done it twice and received SCs both times)

Haven't check availability, redeem some hard earned points or use tiger or jetstar to get to SIN, then SIN-BKK-SIN for $520aud - 120 sc's.....

Shame to be so close, as once there once, that's 200 less in the future, but then again, gold's probably OK.

I've used Jetstar ODU's to good effect. I'm 5 for 5 in getting SC's and points credited but there is a risk they may not be available at check-in or the price has changed. I haven't tested this but I was told last time I checked in that you could call Jetstar within 14 days of your flight and they would do these in advance. Not only that, it was slightly cheaper.

JQ dont offer Starclass ex Perth, so $1250 + a flight to the east coast.

I tried ringing in advance and was told to ask at Cairns.

You could do a starclass run Mel-syd return.

Award flight to MEL
JQ30 fri 26 feb MEL-SYD $329
JQ35 sat 27 feb SYD-MEL $329
paid flight MEL-PER approx $250

should get 40+40+20 SC for about $880

or slot in a SYD-CBR return if you can get it for $200 or less and make the return to PER an award flight as well.

Sorry I'm on iPhone so can easily look up full details.

Agreed that that's the easiest, but it's really not cheap (the return flight is the killer) - I came up with $818 + CC fee for the above itinerary for next weekend.

PER-ADL-SYD-ADL-PER isn't any cheaper either. Personally - I can think of many better ways of spending ~ $1000.

Prices have gone up to over a thousand now for that route. If you do it ex-AKL it’s still just under $700 though.

Booking it as two one way flights (ie. SYD-AKL and AKL-SYD) instead of SYD-AKL return also keeps the cost down a bit - about $840 all together.

Has someone also mention flying to Nadi from Sydney.

You still gotta get to Sydney, but the fiji trip might be an altenative to AKL with LAN
