Amex Centurion Card eligibility in Australia

Had a very talkative Phillipines agent so thought I'd quiz her on eligibility for Australian Cent card:
  • You can request an invitation to Centurion after holding Plat Charge for at least 6 to 12months by calling up
  • Likely eligible is $100k p.a. spend i.e. ~$8.3k p.m. (They can check your past year spend if unsure)
  • Invite request can be resent sent every 3 to 6 months
  • Response if criteria met should come back after ~30 days or less. If denied no response....
  • Didn't know if certain spend increased likelihood (i.e. F/J travel) - seemed to be reading internal chat/policy script

Thanks kallinch - very interesting. I'd always thought spend might be closer to $250K per annum. The real issue is just the lack of real additional benefits to make the fee worthwhile (at least from my perspective relative to the plat card).

Thanks Kallinch. What do you do to request? Just call the number on the back of the card? I.e, how did you get talking to her, by what number?

I spend around $1million per year - mostly flights and hotels. No invite for me......
You should call up and request an invite to see if we can correlate the info provided to Kallinch :)

Yep literally just called usual number on back of card - last night around 8:30pm so no Aus call centre and just ask: Would I be eligible for the Cent card?

Have held Cent - cancelled - invited back - you couldn’t get me back in in a blue fit.

IMHO grossly overpriced card with totally inadequate benefits - way cheaper ways to cultivate FF pts of you are creative.

And again IMHO given cost and benefits available to Yank Cent holders ALL Australians should boycott Oz Cent until AMEX Oz get a reality check

Further info here and here

well inspired by this thread, I called up and applied for it,
I dont have a charge card, and i dont expect to be approved, and even if I was i wouldnt pay the $10k fees just for the first year,
was surprised not to get rejected on the spot

was told 5-10 business days and a call/email regardless,

So SOPOOR, you do not want the card and expect a rejection. I am not too sure how this is an inspiration.

I had only an explorer and called requesting Centurion invite. A few days later they called and asked me to join. I decided to try it for a year but told them I would only join if they waived the 5k joining fee - which they did.
I have had it for about 5 months - is it worth the 5k pa? Depends on your circumstances. For me - borderline.
The fee (for my circumstances) is tax deductible. Gets me more points per $ spent than other cards - and as I spend a lot - it nearly pays for itself.
Service is good - One phone call and they found me U2 and Elton John tickets - I could have sourced myself - but saved me time. Free Qantas Club ( I have nil status with any airline), lots of hotel extras ( free room upgrades, free dinners/ breakfasts) and a dedicated person to look after me.
For most people the extra cost over plat charge is not going to be worth it unless you put a value on the prestige.

Have had two invitations, rejected both for the same reasons.

not that I know of
I think they will be happy to keep anyone willing to cough up the 5k pa
They are trying to promote its exclusivity, but it is just another money making ploy.

Would you mind disclosing how much you were putting on your explorer card per month?
And what were the main spending types?
Thanks in advance

Just curious , did you ask for waiving the joining fee of 10K completely or told them you will be willing to pay only 5K.

Did they end up asking for any documents or anything before they approved your card.
