A complaint to QF or shall we take up a collection?

After using 16K of precious points to upgrade to Business on QF566 last night (PER-SYD) I found myself in 6A... the last row of Business in the A330.
Really like stretching our in the SkyBeds, but always look forward to a nice relaxed meal at the end of a busy week. :p

Now when I got the upgrade there was no mention of 'catering not guaranteed', and J looked about 85% full, but when Ms 6B and I were offered dinner I found there was no soup (for anyone it looked like), and precisely 2 main courses left. Ms 6B chose hers, and I didn't like what was left. I was offered an economy meal, but it turned out there was just one left over, and it proved to be a smaller version of what I'd just knocked back.:evil:

Fortunately there was ice-cream so dinner it was!

I'm surprised and disappointed by the dismal state of catering on this flight. I'm not sure whether to fire off a complaint to the black hole that is Customer non-Relations, or suggest we take up a collection to help QF de-enhance J catering? :?:

Any views or similar experiences of late?

Paddy

Which is rubbish. The correct wording (based on experience) should be 'in the last rows of business class catering is not assured'.

If you where in a more forward row, this probably would not have happened. It has zero to do with the upgrade. It's happened to me quite often.

I've seen similar in Y. The girl next to me (i was up the front in Y) had changed her flight to an earlier one. The FA actually said, you have catering not assured so we will come back at the end. Sure enough they did has they had left over meals. I'd never seen that before.

All upgrades on the day of departure have 'catering not assured'.

Which is rubbish. The correct wording (based on experience) should be 'in the last rows of business class your choice of catering is not assured'.

I've also sat in the last row of J on several occasions and always had a meal.

Food on QF J is pretty average anyway. At breakfast time, there are only ever egg dishes on the menu. Because I'm allergic to eggs (except in baked goods), I always end up having to accept the continental option. Which more often than not contains nuts (muesli) - meaning no breakfast for me. I'd like to see more options for breakfast. Virgin apparently offer ham and cheese croissants in Business. It'd be nice to see those on QF.

And as for the Quesadilla I had to put up with from MEL to SYD last week - avoid at all costs. Terrible.

Can't you just eat in the lounge before your flight?

Often don't have time to go to the lounge. If I'm out on a breakfast flight I choose to sleep in. And as for those meal requests, the food is even more horrible. The word insipid comes to mind when I try to describe the last time I requested one of those...

Perhaps some are, but on several occasions i had selected the fruit platter and I found it to be better than most other selections.

Fair enough... the meal request would have been my next suggestion. I haven't tried one of those so can't comment on them.

What were you offered and what did you turn down from Y?

I'd send in a e-mail to let QF know. If nobody says anything, how will they know?

(OT; I just did 4 transcon flights in J (SYD-PER, MEL-PER return) in the last 2 weeks and the service/food was exceptional on all sectors except the SYD-PER morning flight. Breakfast then coffee/biscuit just before landing, l was starting to get hungry towards the end of that flight, maybe a round of finger sandwiches might have filled the hole for me. Apart from that, l was really happy with QF in J.)

Most of my J class meals on QF domestic have been good too, except when I've been in the last row (or two). Where they can run out of choices.
