Hi guys,

I thought I'd ask a few questions here to arm myself with some valuable information before I start planning and booking. Just last week, I won 2 return PE tickets to the Olympics! They were won through work and it was very unexpected because I don't usually win anything :)

After reading the "travel regret" thread a few weeks ago, I decided that I was going to take my Mum with me as the +1, and pay for my Dad and brother to join us. We are planning our first family overseas holiday together, and its going to be quite epic!

I've got a planned itinerary of Perth-London-Paris-Zurich-Munich-New York-Las Vegas-San Fran-Perth. I'm basically planning on booking my Dad and brothers itinerary with Singapore Airlines, using part of my "free" itinerary, and tack on whats required with more Singapore Airlines flights.

I think the company that is supplying the prize has already pre-purchased Syd-Lhr return (3rd-8th) PE Qantas Q1/Q2. They said I can change dates if I want to extend the holiday. Is it possible to do any of the following:

- Change my return flight from LHR-SYD to LAX-SYD, saves my mum and I from backtracking back to London to come home
- Pay the difference and upgrade to business class for one or both legs of the journey

I have about 120k FF points, and a lot more warehoused in Amex if required. Is there any chance of obtaining an upgrade request to J from PE on QF1 on the 3rd of August? I am a lowly bronze, but a Marco Polo gold. I don't really understand how you can rate your chances with looking at plane loadings so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

My main aims:
1 - upgrade my mum and I to the high cabin possible, prefer to use points, but will pay if required as this is a once in a lifetime trip
2 - return lax-syd instead of backtracking from SFO-LHR then flying home

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi guys,
Change my return flight from LHR-SYD to LAX-SYD, saves my mum and I from backtracking back to London to come home

Unlikely. That's a complete destination change and depending on the fare would require you to be completely reticketed.

On another note you can pay the fare difference and upgrade to business class, you just do this through the call centre, however because it was booked by your work and not yourself, I don't know what your chances will be. If you want to request an upgrade, you can just do it through the call centre, since the booking might not appear under 'your bookings' since it was organised by your work. Just beware that as a bronze, you have lowest priority for upgrades and you'll be the last one to find out if the upgrade is successful (12 hours before or whatever it is for bronzes).

I can't help with any of your questions but good on you for taking your mum (and brother and dad). That is wonderful and super lovely!

Hi Pumbaa,

Sounds like a great trip!
Changes and upgrades are really subject to the conditions of your fare. So, my recommendation would be to contact the company that is providing the prize and enquire through them in the first instance. Alternatively, if you have a PNR you could contact Qantas on 13 13 13.

Cheers,
Red Roo
