Well... I think I might have just lost the plot...

Have an otherwise useless week off work in a few months..... and just now grabbed an NZ SYD-AKL-LAX vv for AUD$1028...

I'll be putting in for upgrades on the AKL-LAX-AKL legs..... Of course!;)

Here's the thing though.... in the 6 days I'm spending over there I've found a pair of "-UP" fares that- if I book them - would:

1. Have me flying transcon eastbound in F on a 3-class (Intl config) 777.. plus two other flights in Domestic F...

2. Have me flying transcon westbound in F on a "PS" flight.. plus two other domestic F segs..

3. Earn me scads of "points" on my program... for AUD$1500..

Think I'm going to do it......:rolleyes::?:

Well, I'm not a *A person, so I cannot talk... :) :p

All I can say is, whatever floats your boat!

Why not :)

It's something I'd be doing if I could travel to the US in the near future. (time and passport constraints rule that out at the moment).

Thankee Sir!! Nice to get a second opinion......
It is a pleasure to be of assistance. ;)

Seriously though. Go for it and grab all you can from these cheap deals. They may not last much longer....

Crediting to NZ....

I understand why so many folks think it's an "ungenerous" program (to say the least!) but it works for me...;)

Now doing three trips to the US this year all on NZ (rec only.. not much by AFF/FT standards!!)... one in paid C, the others in discount Y with upgrades applied for on the first of those so far..... I have plenty of A$ left and will of course earn quite a few on the other 2 trips... especially as I always build in a domestic F run in the USA.. be mad not to! (Latest one? 330 A$ for AUD $746..... Downside? On US.....;))

In any case I might just apply for Y+... I have exit rows or 36C on all the AKL-LAX-AKL flights in Y.. all 744's.. I prefer them! So if the upgrades don't clear.. it'll be OK....

*A or OW my answer would be the same... DO IT :shock:
Your asking the wrong people here if you should do an MR.

Damn Evan... you caught me out...

Of course I'm going to ask... HERE!!!!

I know what answer I want!

Not sure how to tell friends/family about this latest booking....;)

Might just.....not.

Let me get this straight... You found a -UP fare on a PS service?

WTF.. !?! GTFOOH!

I spend quite a bit of time hanging in the air between JFK and SFO/LAX on UA FPS, and I have never come across a -UP fare on those services. There are abundant Z fares in biz, but I have never seen UA discount FPS seats. I'm not saying I don't believe you, but -UP fares on F/PS have gotta be as rare as rocking-horse cough...

All I can say is no, I don't think you've lost it... You should go hard! I personally shudder at the thought of a MR (jeez, I need some time on terra firma occasionally), but a bargain is a bargain...

If you fly a lot for work I can understand the aversion!!

I only get to do this in my own time.. and I never travel just for the miles/points.. never! I always manage to build MR style travel onto the trips I wanted to do... to competitions in my sport... so I take the "SYD-LAX" I need to do... and add a domestic F run.... and/or go over via Asia or whatever..

Example= Was going to the US Nationals in PHX... Flew SYD-SIN-BKK-HKG-NRT-ICN-YVR-PDX-PHX... mostly in C (on a fare that isn't available any more - Curses!!!...:()

On the second trip booked for this year I managed to build in an F run that takes us exactly where we need to go!! No extraneous travel at all...well.. except for doing 3 segs where 2 is possible....

That isn't easy to do!!

Now ticketed etc on that F run which includes the PS F flight ( picked seat 1A.. should I stick with that???)... Booking class A all the way through....

Interestingly I can find heaps of advice about the best seats in PS C... can't find jack about PS F.... Maybe noone cares WHICH seat they get?

Not really, although I quite like 3A myself, tucked away in the corner. There is no passenger traffic down the aisle to the toilet in C, and no C passengers walking through to the toilet at the front of F. 3A and 3D are both marginally more private but yes, all the seats in FPS are good... And the entire experience is vastly better than "regular" domestic F.

Thanks for that...

Reckon I'll stick with 1A.. it's a day flight anyway so the "private corner" is of less concern to me....

The photos of the cabin are pretty amazing for a domestic product....

Just got to decide now whether to book the other half as a PS flight.. or on the 3-class 777... (In A again.. for a similar price!!!)

Decisions, decisions... and I better hurry up in case these fares vanish!

If you're headed back to JFK, just go FPS on the return. If you're heading for IAD, take the 777 flight. Unnecessary connections at NYC airports should be avoided.

NYCguy...

All back to normal now.... those fares have disappeared!!! :(

I got in on the run including the PS F westbound.. but missed out on the 777 in F eastbound.. that is now twice the price.... shouldna hesitated!! ;)

Now that it's gone, can you give a little more about how you found it? Did you just happen across this fare, or did you systematically go about finding it? I'm intrigued if we can replicate this somehow.

Pretty sure it first came to my attention on Flyertalk.. in the "Premium Deals" thread... Sorry.. I just assumed everyone here was also a "Flyertalker"???? (This board is quite "QF centric"... and that is not a criticism just an observation.. so us *A types must also look elsewhere!)

I played with it from there and found the one I ended up booking.. (and the one I didn't!!! Waaah!) Believe it or not booked it on .bomb!

There are still AUD$750-850 multi seg trips in F available on UA... LAX-SFO-DEN-IAD-ATL for example.. just can't get the PS 757 or 777 3 class to be a part of them any more! :( (Goes to AUD $1600 plus then... which is actually still a good price - no mistake there!... but more than one wishes to pay for an MR/Status run)

Some even cheaper F runs on US..... but then... it's US! ;) THOSE I have found by just doing the leg work.... and trying out combos on ITA!!

If you are interested in those.. send me a PM... but remember due to the nature of my specific program, I'm keen on segments not miles!!!
