I booked a trip adl-sfo-lax-adl about 2 months ago for November this year.
All went well, and I got the end of a great fare sale (A$1230 total).
Oddly, I was immediately allocated to an exit row seat on the syd-sfo sector, but I didn't complain! Went I went to seat allocation for the trip home, I was able to get 80a,so all in all, I was pretty happy.
Got an email from QF today to call them and found that the direct syd-sfo flight was canceled (744) and I'm now going to sfo via lax on QF11 and AA.
When I told her I had an exit row going over she tried to get me one, but couldn't, so I asked for 80a which she was going to give me, then she said, I'd been mucked around enough and would I like a PE seat instead!!!!! I grudgingly accepted, and asked if I could please have a window seat as well, which I now have!!!!
Then she changed my adl-mel-syd sectors to adl-syd direct leaving 2 hours later, so that was another bonus.
At the moment, I love qantas, and I haven't even got in the air yet.

I wonder what the reason for the cancellation was, maybe they are reducing the frequency of the service with the winter timetable release, or perhaps just a one off?

I just realised I probably loose some SC's by not going via MEL, but hopefully I'll pick them up with the LAX-SFO flight. Win some, loose some!

Flyboy...what date was this? I can have a look on E/F and see if we can ascertain whether this is a one off or a change to the schedule...

Had a quick look - the days that QF73 is operating through November seems to move around quite a bit so it may just be aircraft positioning as they start the roll-out of the new 744 interiors.

Also, with a PE seat - was this effectively an upgrade? Have you checked your booking? That may ease some of the SC loss...

Once the flights have been taken, you could always apply for Original Routing Credit...

Well as I said - QF73 is all over the place in November. That week there is a service on Wed, Sat and the following Monday (8th). But the next week, there is a service on the Friday (12th). But this pattern of random changes persists through November - for example, there is no service on Wed 17th November, despite there being other Wednesday services in other weeks.

In any event, QF11 on that date is showing all 4 classes as follows: F9 A9 J9 C9 D9 I0 W9 R9 T3 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 QC OC XC E0 so that suggests if you have been given a PE seat, you have been upgraded - and is not just a case of them using PE seats in Y as they have been doing on some routes. So well done!

For someone with low status it does appear that you are getting the royal treatment from Qantas.

Win some, loose some!
Anat0l may need to proof this statement again! ;)
