We have noticed that there has been a increase in members posting simple one-liners such as on-board, watching, subscribed etc on Trip Reports threads.

I suspect the reason for this is to automatically "subscribe" to the thread (and therefore be notified when the thread is updated) and/or provide encouragement to the Trip Report author.

The problem with this is that it does create unnecessary banter which can be distracting to the Trip Report itself.

So instead of posting a one-liner (or, even worse, a one-worder), you can easily subscribe to the thread by clicking "Watch Thread" near the top right of the page. This will subscribe you the thread, so there is no need to post.

There is also no need to post just to encourage the author. Simply "liking" the post is adequate. Also remember that all members can see the number of views a thread has attracted and even who has viewed the thread. As an example

this appears at the bottom of every page in a thread.

Of course, if you are more than welcome to post to the thread if you are contributing to the discussion!!
