A luggage question

Hi. Long time lurker here who enjoys the AFF community and has learned heaps. Am QF gold and soon travelling J class from LHR back to Oz. I know the J class luggage allowance is 30 kg and I'm allowed an extra 10 kg for being gold. What's the usual way to do this with the 32 kg weight limit on any luggage? There is no mention of a second piece of luggage on the QF website except for via US flights.

In my experience as a Gold and Platinum travelling economy to SE Asia on QF I have been allowed to check in more than one piece up to my baggage allowance.

But as i understood there was no actual restriction to one peice, simply a total weight limit.

I had to check luggage ( ) for my recent trip to China, which was two pieces, with a total weight of < 30 kg.

This was not questioned by QF (or KA) check-in staff.

With the piece system, such as used domestically, the limit is n pieces each of max 32Kg with Qantas. Excess baggage is charge per extra piece checked in

Where the weight based system applies, the limit is nKg ; you are permitted as many pieces as desired as long as total weight does not exceed the allowance ( 40Kg in your case ). if the baggage exceeds the 40Kg, then the excess charge will be charged per Kg at a rate which is ( or used to be ) for LHR-Australia of GBP25 per Kg

If you have a lot of luggage I would recommend flying BA rather than Qantas. The BA allowance in business class is 3 Pieces and each piece may be up to 32Kg . This gives a total allowance of 96Kg. If you need more than this, then 1 extra piece will cost an additional GBP72

There is a fee of GBP25 being introduced on 26November for bags weighing greater than 23Kg but it is suggested on FT that this will be not charged on business/1st class bookings. If it is charged, then the allowance would work out 69Kg free allowance
Either way the allowance far exceeds that of Qantas

Actually this has been playing on my mind.
As an AA PLT how does baggage limts work? I am flying Y+ (hopefully assuming upgrade goes through from family member points) from LHR to SIN then SIN- MEL. Does the standard typically apply??

The limit for premium ecomomy on Qantas is still, iirc, the same as economy which is 20Kg. There is no additional allowance for being platinum

Next Saturday (22nd) I'm doing SYD-HNL in *Class with JQ and then onto DFW (and beyond) with AA in First. I just want to confirm my baggage allowance with someone who's done a similar trip recently.

1. Because I purchased my JQ ticket many months ago I'm allowed 2 x 23 Kg pieces as per the discussion on the changes to the HNL rules in another thread.
2. If I'm reading the AA rules correctly I'm allowed the same 2 x 23Kg bags on AA at no charge as we are travelling 1st plus I'm WP. Am I correct in that please?

My reading is that I can have 2 x 23Kg bags (at no charge) all the way from ADL-HNL-DFW-RIC-DFW-SJC-LAX-HNL-SYD-ADL.

I believe you are correct - almost.

I think you are entitled to 2 x 32Kg on JQi.

At the airport - Travel information - Jetstar Airways

Certainly 2 x 50lb (23Kg on AA) (The web site is a bit vague on this)

You are correct in what you have said

You are allowed 2 pieces on the Jetstar flight to USA, though are allowed 32Kg rather than 23Kg

In 1st class on AA you are allowed 2 pieces with no charge with a maximum weight of 50Lb ( 23Kg approx ) per piece

You are fine with 2 pieces of 23Kg all the way on your trip and will not have any excess fees

If either or both of your bags weigh between 50Lb and 70Lb ( 23 - 32 Kg ) then you are fine on Jetstar but will be charged $25 for each bag which is over the limit each time you check in

Many thanks for the quick responses. I just realised there is a very small nuance that I ommitted. SJC-LAX is with American Eagle. There is nothing on the American Eagle web-page re baggage so I assume that the same AA rules apply. I know they will take "large" carryon off you at boarding and stow it in the hold, so there'll be no surprises there.
