I recently wanted to book a points flight in First or Business on CX from JFK -> HKG. I went onto the QF website and all that was available was Economy. I called QF and got the same result. So I thought I would try something - I joined Asia Miles and looked for the same flights - and guess what - not only was First, Business and Premium Economy all available on the flight I wanted, all were available at discounted point rates. The points conversion rate from Amex to Asia Miles is the same as Amex to QF so I got the the flight I wanted and saved heaps of points. Even if the flight was available through QF, I would have paid heaps more points for a OneWorld redemption. And I thought I knew it all when it came ot booking points tickets - I have been doing it for many many years.

Yes, airlines are under no obligation to release seats (in any/all cabins) to other airlines, as awards, tending to look after their own program members first.

While I can understand this, it is frustrating of course. And I have noticed that AA is no different.

I understand Asia Miles give, overall, better points value than Qantas FF points but with less flexibility with oneworld flights..Worth exploring.
