Righto, this afternoon it’s on the bird PER-SYD - and back on an A330 at last - to take in Vivid for two nights. Using a credit from an aborted 2021 flight from my Amex Ultimate $450 flight credit plus I think snaring some extra QF points from the status extension promo, according to my sketchy notes and even sketchier memory.

Lobbed into SYD and checked into the hotel by a little after 2100h, so time to check out a few of the installations before shut-off at 2300h.

First stop Central Station. Two dance platforms at the projection site enabled people to have their abstracted imagery beamed up onto the lower faces of the clocktower.

Monday was just about a PERfect day in Sydney and we spent the day strolling around Circular Quay, The Rocks, around to Barangaroo and through The Domain to end up in the evening having an early dinner on the E side of Circular Quay to coincide with the light show coming on, and then the rest of the night taking it in.

We stumbled on the last day of Biennale, a contemporary visual arts event held every two years, at The Cutaway on the way around to Barangaroo.

Make of this what you will:

Visit Vivid where you wouldn't know households are facing night time blackouts and people being asked to cut back electricity consumption. 🤣

You beat me to my punchline that was coming after showing some big examples of the light show. Stay tuned and reflect on our world of ironies... ;)

Oh, that’s the old Sydney Oyster Bar site. Nice locale and view but must have been a bit chilly? (at least the winds gone for the moment)

Places over in the OPT are excellent for watching the display on the Opera House sails. Had a work dinner there years ago and ended up with a table right in the window. Mesmerising.

Aahhh, so that's the site of the Sydney Oyster Bar. They moved holus bolus to Broome a couple of years ago. At their Broome resto, they have a blurb either on the wall or on their website where they unleash that they ostensibly out of the blue did not have their lease renewed after many, many years - so they shot through as far as they could from Sydney.

I was once in Sydney at Vivid time, perhaps 10 or more years ago and had dinner at Quay while watching the lights play on the opera house directly opposite. Nice.

It was cool but there was a gas (😲😛) heater nearby to take the edge off. We didn't linger. They opened for dinner at 1700h after a break from about 1530h. We booked for 1700h and were out by 1900h. Sunset was just before 1700h.

Next day we had an evening flight SYD-PER, so we wandered over to Darling Harbour for brunch and then spent a few hours in the National Maritime Museum, including going through the submarine, destroyer, Endeavour and Duyfken replicas.
