It will be inetresting too see after AMy next year when the Emirate JV is all seen in the market and benefits and pit falls as well.

Has Virgin caught a break from Qantas or is Qantas just being plain stupid?

This is the new layout for their new Business on their A330's on the Perth routes - so inferior to the new Virgin option.
Qantas shifting to Airbus A330-only flights for Sydney-Perth, Melbourne-Perth - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

Shows you the ignorance of some, this layout has been in use for around 12 months or so now by QF, so I would hardly call it new.

The thing that struck me when I saw the pics, elsewhere, of the new A330 was how dated the J fit-out looked! And that plastic shroud in the middle of the middle seats, ick.

I've had some good and not-so-good flights on both QF and DJ on that route so I'd be very reluctant to state DJ has Joey licked just yet! However, what it does signal is robust competition on that route; let's hope that starts to bring prices down soon too.

YEs I looked at that article and thought "really? thats's their response to DJ?"

Its a win for those that don't like the old 767 or single aisle equipment on the SYD/MEL to PER routes and those Y passengers, but that is effectively the news from yesterday, showcasing a solo new A330 with pretend J seating and indicating the config will be also done on the ex JQ birds is something of an epic fail I suspect, given the reaction to the very same config in the past year on the two existing aircraft that have it.

From a PR perspective, I think yesterday's event achieved its goal with content making the news, therefore the average mum and dad thinks QF have upped the ante, however those in the now would no doubt call it a blank shot, while those that attended the event were probably left feeling a little hard done by when it came to "news".

This looks very much like the much maligned old PE offering Virgin put in some time back. And wasn't that a complete flop. Even that old PE config had better seat pitch.
