Hi

Been a while since I flew a non-A380 QF bird and I am doing exactly that on Sunday as part of my marathon to JED (syd-BKK (6 hours wait) bkk-amm (8 hours wait) amm-jed (2 hour flight). It was a clever idea at the time when it would literally tip me over to P1 at midnight on 30 Sep (and save the company $4,000) - something that is now unnecessary as I blasted through P1 six weeks ago.

Anyway back on topic. Two quick questions:

- PJs in J - do that have them on this trip?

- SKI IFE can I route external media through this? I know you can plug in a flash drive into the SKII (not iDevices) and run movies. If you can - is there a particular format?

Supplementary question

- SKI IFE - is it still as cough and unreliable as it used to be?

Cheers in advance

S

Careful with RJ in AMM. They lost all our luggage JED-AMM-CAI in AMM even though there was a 4 hour layover. I literally had to look through the bowels of CAI airport to find it myself.

so how could one be careful so as to avoid Royal Jordanian from losing luggage? Careful? I don't understand...

I don't think they do as it's a daytime flight. We did get PJs on the way back on Sunday, though.

That is my recent experience on international A330 flights. No PJs if it is a daytime flight.

Thanks all. Interesting re baggage - I don't normally have baggage but I will have dive gear this time so will have baggage.

Looks like I need to pull some PJs from the store (I found 10+ pairs in the wardrobe this morning ranging from QF old and new First to BA F to multiple QJ J).

the rockwell collins IFE has had many software updates over the years to help 'debug' the system..so is more reliable than when first introduced...but still requires a little TLC when using it...the main issues happen when pax press buttons too fast or repeatedly (before the system has time to respond)..and it 'freezes'..you just need to wait a bit longer for system to respond to each command... it's still not as responsive as the panasonic IFE on a380/upgraded 747...sorry i cant help you with the other tech question:oops:

Thanks for the info - I rarely use IFE as I use the iPad but with the looooong layovers I might need a bit more stuff to keep me entertained - already picked out five potential movies...

We did not get PJs SYD-BKK in july.Didn't have to wait that long in BKK as QF was nearly 3 hours behind schedule.
RJ use one of the TG lounges in BKK.Good showers but nothing else to reccomend it.So better to go with the QF lounge.
Had no problem with lost baggage on RJ but they are identical to QF when it comes to priority baggage-priority stickers mean nothing.
If you want to use the RJ computers in their lounge they are behind you as you come up the escalator-I only saw them when exiting.
We were told at AMM that the new terminal would be operational in 2 months-my bet is you will be told the same thing.

Sorry technical questions are beyond the scope of this dinosaur.

Thanks again - I am also hoping for a delay ex-SYD... Breakfast and lunch in the f lounge FTW!

Hi Simon,

You won't get PJs on SYD-BKK as it's a daytime flight. You will get them on the way back (I could see from my lowly Y seat last night that the J pax were getting them)

The A330 IFE does not have USB inputs so you're out of luck there. As for the reliability of the IFE system, I've never had a problem with the A330 IFE... as opposed to the B7474 IFE system which has a very poor reliability record and probably the reason for your question.

BTW: For your stopover at AMM in the RJ Crown Lounge, you will probably want a power outlet for at least some of the stay. The only power points that I could find there are in the games room or near the low orange chairs on the right past reception (two points).

Thanks dot for the tips re the power points - I will definitely need them!

Confirming no USB on 330.

You could use the bathroom point for in flight recharge to make it to bkk before charging in the lounge.

I thought that some of the A330-200's have the newer IFE system as used on the A380 so would have USB. Is this not the case?

I now that there is in seat charging on the A330 as the SKI has in seat power.

They are domestic aircraft, so won't be used on these routes.

They do occasionally slip an A332 into the schedule but international config so you'll still be OK.

The 332's are featuring a lot out of PER.

There have been instances where the domestic 330's have featured internationally out of PER, but that is a rarity really. The domestic birds have the better IFE but the inferior seat to the international ones.
