Being a regular but infrequent flyer between Perth and the East Coast I have limited choice: its either Qantas or Virgin ( Jetstar is so bad I will not use them)
So for the first time, I chose Virgin. The reason was cost. It was lot cheaper than QF for the PER SYD trip.
So having prior experience of the QF airbus 330 service west east here's a few comparative notes:
Seat pitch BOTH 31inch in economy.
Food BOTH mediocre, QF "free" Virgin at cost.
Drinks BOTH offer decent wine, QF "free" Virgin at cost.
Inflight entertainment: Virgin AWFUL QF excellent and very broad ranging.
Overall. Virgin are running re-painted ex Emirates aircraft mostly about 10 years old. The in flight entertainment systems flaky on both recent VA flights. QF are flying almost new aircraft and it shows.
Since I am a QF lounge member I would choose to wait there. Virgin at Perth gate lounges are cramped and staff treatment not that friendly.
Price? Virgin won that one but I will give my pref to QF if the price is the same or sim.
