Hi all,

I just tried to book SYD-SFO return for 4*adult, 3 year old and 1 year old and was quoted 6*75,000 points.

Is it normal practice to charge full points for child tickets?

Anyone have success paying cash for child tickets putting them on the same booking as award tickets?

Welcome to AFF.

I am surprised the 1 YO was being charged the points, unless you wanted a seat for them.

Somewhere I recall such children accompanying parents on AAwards being charged 10% of the adult 'full' fare rather than points.

I check it out.

This has been my experience too - you have to call the AAdvantage desk to organise infants under 2, but the end result will be 10% of the full fare class for lap infants (which can be substantial), but full points for seated infants or children.

OK, research shows that if a seat is to be occupied then it's treated as a standard award.

For infants under 2 years of age traveling with you, if they don't occupy a seat the cost is 10% of the full fare plus 100% of the taxes.

We got quite stung by that (I was aware it was coming but it still stung) when flying with babygr in J... It is the only time I think that QF's award scheme is better...
