AA cancelled flight - options?

Hi all,

Hoping for a bit of advice here...

I have flights booked to Costa Rica. Due to the fact you can't book through to SJO on Qantas, I booked return to JFK on QF and then had to have the JFK-SJO sectors ticketed separately on AA. Everything seemed fine.

Except today I was contacted by AA and told that the direct SJO-JFK flight has been cancelled and they now want to re-route me through MIA to get to JFK. However this now means I'll miss the connecting flight at JFK. And because I was forced to have the JFK-SJO part ticketed separately, I don't seem to have any chance of getting Qantas to change the flights without penalty. Everything was booked in Business Class, but in the cheaper fare bucket, in which there is no longer availability making the price difference I'd have to make up quite considerable.

Do I have any recourse at all in this situation? I have travel insurance, but presumably it doesn't cover stuff like this?

Appreciate any advice :)

Airline initiated changes do normally give flexibility to changes. Call aa and see what they can do.

As for qf they may but are very unlikely to help as its a seperate ticket causing the issue and thus not really their issue.

Make AA aware of the Qantas booking - they have a policy with such mis connects with separate bookings with oneworld carriers. They should reacommodate you no additional cost.

You need to call AA, they have the responsibility to re accommodate you on another service to get home as it falls under their One World separate tickets policy:

oneworld - Separate Tickets

Thanks :)

It's sorted out. My employer is massively unhappy with the whole situation as I am now arriving back a day late and will miss a major meeting...But nothing to be done about it I guess.

Good to hear, delays happen, my employer was not to happy when I got on the wrong plane once and got home two days late!

I remember this happening to a guy I worked with once, maybe it was the fact that he somehow got stranded in the Caribbean for those two days that didn't win much sympathy!
