Yes they earn both points and SCs, assuming they're booked into either A, F or P.

The important thing to note is how it's described in the T&C's

Frequent Flyer - About the Program - Terms & Conditions

"Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes." and the absence of a statement like "Excluded: Points and Status Credits are not earned on joint venture flights or Codeshare Flights operated by airlines other than oneworld Alliance Airlines." is why you can earn points and sc's in that situation.

Further to the answer from Mal I would leave the booking with AA if that is where it is already setup.

Indeed - moving to the Alaska flight number will mean no SC's, but points.

(Reason being the lack of the statement "Status Credits are earned on all eligible booking classes." under the Alaska Airlines entry in the Earning table in the T&Cs )

Per what Mal said - it's a nice way to pick up SCs on the cheap. :)

Thanks for the input. Seems flight no is AS, hmmm will ask agent to change to AA, interestingly AA Oz site has the flight cheaper - will see if this can be matched, otherwise might try getting via AA Oz site

Generally booking on www.AA.com or "www.americanairlines.com.au" will provide the AA codeshare flight number, not the AS number.

After booking, to get seat selection, you then need to contact AS in OZ during business hours on 1300 304 135 to do so (hint: get your AS version of the booking PNR at the same time and select seats online using Alaska Airlines / Horizon Air)
