the one world tool says exceeded the 2 stop rule... "Two stopovers of greater than 24 hours permitted in the continent of origin and only one permitted in each direction within the country of origin. You can only make an extra stop if it is less than 24 hours " ...the MEL-BNE-MEL leg was proposed to be flown some months after returning from the US in July...Thanks Serfty for your help

The "maximum 2 stopover in continent of origin" rule was unfortunately introduced a few years ago, I think to prevent exactly what you're trying to do.

You used to be able to tack on extra domestic segments (up to the continental maximum of 4) either before or after the international component of the journey. I used to add BNE-PER-ADL-BNE to the end of AONE4's, which was a nice way of getting a "free" transcontinental J experiences (transit in ADL due to the single transcontinental segment rule).

Hawkeye has pinpointed the issue.

You should still be able to go AKL-MEL-LHR-...-LAX-xMEL-xBNE-MEL-AKL or AKL-MEL-LHR-...-LAX-MEL-xBNE-xMEL-AKL.
