Thank goodness AA.
I copped a window seat with the jet engine just outside. Took days for my right ear to get back to normal. That seat should not have been there.

Ha! That must have been early on or before your AFF days - never have I sat further back than row 10 on these beasties having had over 40 flights in them. :)

I did that all the time non-reving on AA. They were certainly the bane of my early flying, but I'm rather nostalgic about it all now.

I'll be a little sad to see them go.

Not at all sorry to see the MD80s go - noisiest jet cabin in the air these days. Thank goodness for Noise Cancelling Headphones!

Just did DFW-PVR (ret) in old S80s (nothing particularly 'Super' about them!). Fortunately row 1, but I do recall my very first experience up close and personal with the starboard engine!

Oh my goodness; I've been there too. It was like torture.

I'm pretty sure no NCH in the world would have made those engines quiet from where I sat!

I hope they don't end up in Australia as they are too noisy.

Isn't the B717 some form of relation to the MD80?

Hopefully AA will get rid of the other MD80's soon!
