What are the chances of me being denied access to the SYD FLounge tomorrow morning?

This evening I am flying BNE to SYD on QF and the QF system has not yet recognised my AA status upgrade to Exec Platinum. So I had a rather disappointing interaction with the "traffic cop" agent at the door of the Qantas lounges when requesting access to the Business Lounge at BNE. Boarding pass still shows Sapphire even though AA has been showing Exec Plat since Tuesday.

So to low morning at SYD international terminal, I wonder if my JAL boarding pass will show Sapphire or Emerald? And if the QF FLounge will accept a print-out of my status from AA web site, or will I miss out on the Eggs Benedict and be banished to the JLounge?

The "customer service agent" at the door of the BNE lounges was quite rude when I tried to explain the situation - "I am not going to argue with you. You boarding pass says Sapphire so that is what it is". So it's all my fault that QF's IT systems are unable to verify FF status from heir alliance partners in anything close to real time.

The CX flight that tipped over the Emerald line was flown on 15th November. AA posted the flight and updated status on 22nd November (CX flights always post on Tuesdays). Booking for today's QF flights (and tomorrow's JAL flight) were made on Friday 25th, so after AA had updated status.

You could always call JAL and get them to remove / re-add your AA number. Correct status hopefully will then print.

Poor form from the QF staffer, but they get people "trying it on" all the time - so I can understand why they are reluctant to believe you are an Emerald when your BP says Sapphire.

That didn't work for the QF sector. And I have no way of seeing what status JAL thinks I am until I check-in in the morning. If it shows Sapphire at check-in I will ask them to try removing it an adding it again, so long as that doesn't lose seat assignments!

They are certainly seeing some status level because when selecting seats on-line I was orginally presented a choice of 3 or 4 middle seats down the back. Then I called the TA and had them add my AA number and I was able to select an aisle seat in the second row of Y. But that may well have been due to Sapphire and not Emerald. It does not show the actual status anywhere that I can see.

I might see if they will let me on-line check-in now and see what it shows.

Yes, I imagine they do get peolpe doing that. Which is why I took along a print out from the AAdvantage web site. But she was not interested in the least at looking at anything beyond the boarding pass or a card, which obviously has not arrived in the mail yet.

No JAL service desk available to ask at this time of night. AAdvantage Exec Plat desk was able to check the reservation (the TA uses Sabre so AA can see the booking) and confirmed the resveration shows Emerald status. She removed the number and added again and still showed Emerald. So will not have to wait and see what happens at check-in tomorrow.

Good luck. Hope it works out well.

At a guess I suspect it's a limitation of AAs sabre system updating to the ow partners status levels. We all know AA batch things, perhaps it is updated once a week. That would fit in well with this scenario.

There is supposedly the ability for staff to call a oneWorld help desk to confirm status. Not sure how Qantas handles this.

Posting from the FLounge at SYD.

Booking still showed as Sapphire in JAL system. The check-in agent tried removing the number and putting it in again. No luck, still showing Sapphire. So he gave me the business class lounge invitation and suggested I ask them in the J Lounge to check with OneWorld.

At the J Lounge the agent looked up her on Computer, which she said was a OneWorld Database, and it showed Sapphire. I showed the AA web page showing Exec Platinum and she called her OneWorld help line. They also said Sapphire (probably looking at the exact same system as the Qantas lounge agent). So the OneWorld help desk person put the Qants Lounge agent on hold and called AA. Confirmed Emerald. So J Lounge agent called F Lounge desk to let them know that I was verified Emerald and on my way back down the balcony.

Phew! I wonder just how long it takes for all the systems to synchronize? My Emerald qualifying flight was 13 days ago.

I did. Thanks for the thoughts. Now enjoying the Tat after the Boll with the EggsB.

The worst part is thinking about the next 11 hours in Y :(

Well done seems like a bit of hard work but you made it eventually.

Just drink more, makes the 11hours go faster.
