Will be in Austin for 3 nights 8-10 Jan.

Does anybody have any hotel tips? Am splitting with a friend so that makes the cost bearable.

Mind me asking the purpose of your visit? There's a decent hotel attached to UT if you'll be at the uni, otherwise plenty around more central near the capital building. Driskill on 6th is right in the thick of it come Thursday onwards for the weekend. Otherwise there's the more trendy/ alternative hotels down on south congress. Have also heard great things about the W on 2nd/3rd if you've got the budget.

Driskill is cool. I stayed at the Imtercontinental last Nov (room block sold at the Omni by the time I booked). Enjoyed the IC. If you're there for music & similar, I'd stay near 6th and *not* expect the rooms to be wonderfully silent.

Purely sightseeing. If SPG have a property there that's a bonus with my SPG Gold, can also use Priority Gold too.

We just stayed at the Omni Austin Hotel Downtown. Had booked a standard room, however a few days before arriving they emailed an offer for an upgrade to a suite for (what I deemed) a reasonable price so we took it. No complaints about the hotel. Staff were great, suites had only been refreshed a few weeks earlier, not sure what the other rooms are like.

As a Plat PC member the rest of our trip we stayed in IHG hotels, and this one was at least as good as any others we stayed in. We looked at IHG in Austin but they all got pretty poor reviews. Not sure if we got a good deal, however when we looked at Omni for other cities they seemed prohibitively more expensive, however for our dates in Austin they were great value.

In short, cant go wrong with Omni if it suits your price range.

where did you end up booking?

just finished a trip over there with a couple of nights at the doubletree suites on 15th and a couple at the hampton on 17th. both bargain basement price using the thankyou rate posted in the hilton board and more than sufficient for some zzz's.

check out the bar in the W for some fancy drinks, otherwise shoot on over to W6th for a bar crawl.
