Accor has been in and out of the Hobart market for years. Its back with a newly built Ibis Styles in the centre of town.

That article will be pay-walled (anyone here subscribe to The Mercury? :) )

The new Accor Ibis Styles Hobart is the biggest hotel in Tasmania with 296 rooms and is directed at the Asian and domestic market, Ms Livingston said.
“Accor has been wanting to come back into the Hobart market for some time now,” she said.
“They know everyone wants to to come to Tasmania.”
Accor previously owned Hadleys and the Mercure.

The next hotel to open here will be the Marriott's "The Luxury Collection" brand, probably more to AFFer's liking.

Looks OK.To get to the Mercury article just google this title-
Fragrance Group’s new Ibis Styles Hobart hotel reopens old city lane

Opening July 1.

Actually 'The Mockery' gets a bit tricky sometimes. For some articles, doing the Google thing doesn't bring up a Google article, but back to the Mockery 'You've reached a premium article' page.

How is it that Launceston gets a Sebel and Hobart only an Ibis styles?
Quite liked the Sebel in Launceston

Other than the room being on the small side the hotel is more like a Novotel, very impressive.

Lap pool with water views plus two huge saunas, good F&B, etc.

Not your typical Ibis.

Quite liked the Sebel in Launceston

Accor have had an uneven history in Tas. There was previously a Mercure and perhaps one other brand in Hobart in the past.

Personally, I don't think the Sebel in Launceston, while quite good, is Sebel standard and the new Ibis Styles is a 'cut above' (especially the location).
