My current status reset month is the end of february.
If i achieve WP in August this year, will my status reset period be changed to the end of August? (Giving me 12 months of WP benefits) Or do i keep the same status reset month? So if i achieve WP in August this year i will have WP till the end of February 2013 and then have a full year from then? (giving me 18 months of WP?)

Hopefully someone can give me a an answer on this?

Thanks gogo

Ifyou achieve WP in August 2012 with a staus reqaul of Feb 2013, you will have WP til the end of Feb 2014.

The reset month stays the same, so you will have WP for 18 month or until the end of Feb 14

You will then look for ways on how to keep Plat ;)

Sorry just another thought leading on from this... I am planning a trip to U.S early 2013. This would mean that I am better off letting my status return back to silver and then organize the US trip for March 2013, and make a big status run then and achieve WP effectively giving me 23 months of benefits? (Once I have completed my 4 QANTAS sectors...?)

Hopefully that makes sense? But if that is the case then I am more than happy to drop back to silver and then go straight up to WP in the first few weeks of March 2013.

Thanks gogo

There is no advantage in letting your status revert back or drop, all you are doing is missing out on extra points and possibly having a higher requal, given qualification levels are higher than retain levels, in this case its a 200 SC difference for no real gain.

Yes. But I won't qualify for WP until I make a status run whilst in the US. And the WP qualify level is the same whether currently gold or silver. However if I wait till march 2013 to do the US trip then I will have WP for almost 2 years instead of qualifying for WP just before my status reset (end feb 2013) as then I will only have WP for 13 months or so..

In regards to your comment in that whether it is more cost effective to retain WP each year? Or allow your status to fall back and then make a big run at the start of your new year and then achieving WP for just under 2 years. In my case as I am not flying large amounts as I am at university I think letting it lapse and then making a big run is best for me. I know if you look at it the costs are clearly a lot greater than the benefits for the amount of flying I do presently. But in the long term it will mean I achieve lifetime gold quicker whilst getting almost 2 years of WP benefits for a years worth of WP credits...

Anyway. I know I went a bit off topic... And probably didn't need to put those thoughts into the post.

Cheers gogo

Unless you have paid QP membership on hold, to which you don't want to waste it on your march toward LTG...

Another loss in not having continuous WP level is that until you requalify you wont have access to the best seats etc.

For example when booking J on the A380 a WP has access to 'Emerald City' up in the front. Other people have to wait until T-24 to take their chance at sitting up front.

Still different strokes for different folks.

Last year I had selected seat in Emerald City LAX to SYD. When I got to the airport I was given a boarding pass at the back in row 25. Queried this. "Oh so sorry Sir. Don't know what has happened. Nothing I can do about it now. Business Class is full." Was not a happy camper.
