Adding infant ticket with Qatar Airways

Hi all

I've been having massive difficulties adding an infant ticket with Qatar Airways.

I originally booked the tickets through Asia Miles so the tickets were issued by Cathay Pacific. CX have told me that I need to speak to the operating airline (ie QR) to add the infant as their systems won't allow it. However, when I called QR they said it is against their policy to add an infant ticket to a booking from a partner airline and I need to contact the ticketing airline (ie CX).

I've tried both CX and QR phone lines multiple times with no luck - I'm just being ping ponged between both airlines, with neither airline taking responsibility for issuing the infant ticket.

Any help on how to progress this would be appreciated!

Hi there Boojah,

I was just reaching out to see how you got on with this? And if luck what did you end up getting charged?

I am literally experiencing the same thing right now and am ready to murder someone!

Sadly, made no progress on this despite a multitude of calls to both airlines. Even went to the airport but while CX staff were helpful and understanding of the problem at least, they couldn't book the infant and were just calling their own call centre themselves. Flight is in two weeks so starting to get a bit nervous!

Yeah I am getting nowhere with this. I'm at the point of cancelling as essentially feel like have no other option???

Yeah I don't know why it's so hard. There's no attempt at communication between the airlines at all. It's a joke.

I finally got a CX agent tell me today they would call Qatar and then they would call me back. I am not holding out for a return call…

What are you going to do given your approaching flight?
Currently got a travel agent looking into what she can do for me to see if progress can be made that way.

If I can't add the infant ticket I think I will either try to buy an economy ticket with a lap infant ticket for the same flight or cancel altogether and look at other options.

It’s so frustrating. Essentially am stuck. CX say ring QR. QR say you can’t purchase a standalone infant fare without an adult booking and since they don’t own the ticket to call CX. It’s impossible.

Our outbound flight i booked with VA on SQ metal. No issue adding an infant.

I think I may end up cancelling the CX redemption and just cross the fingers that the seats are then available on QR to book through VA.

I've read on FlyerTalk somewhere that the passenger had to persist and call QR until they found someone who was able to issue an infant ticket and had to pay taxes.
He reported that he succeded by calling the QR US support line.

I'll link the thread when back home if I can find it again.

Yeah I saw that and tried that too. I called the US support line a few times and I was eventually told all the US support was handled through an Indian call centre (presumably the same as I would get calling from Australia). The answer re adding an infant was the same, so all I succeeded in doing was racking up expensive international calls

After all that I just got an infant ticket added! A travel agent was able to sort it out. @blingy90 pm me if you'd like the agent details, she should be able to help you out too

Hi Boojah - would you be able to share the details of the agent please? I had to cancel my flights last week due to this very frustrating and seemingly unsolvable situation… but need to book other flights now and scared to be in the same situation!

@boojah Could you also share with me the agent's details? I am having the same issue right now... Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.
