Hi,
Yesterday I booked a car rental to and from Darwin Airport. I booked via the VA website which then books you through car trawler.
Being the NT they only allow you 100 km per day. For this reason I carefully read the conditions, and I also had the time...
Agreement as follows:
[h=3]Mileage restrictions:[/h]There are daily mileage restrictions for vehicles at some locations and for all prestige and commercial vehicles. Please refer to the rental station for details of the restrictions and the additional charges that apply.
Reading on....
[h=3]Mileage Policy[/h]Limited Charge: 0.27 AUD per kilometer. Includes 0% tax.
Kilometers included per day: 100
At the Europcar desk - $0.48/km. Because you get to pay 21% surcharge then 10% GST on that! WHAT! That doesn't even add up!
I was not happy as I had felt deceived. So cancelled the booking there and then and refused to sign. Managed to organise something else car wise anyway.
VA are yet to come back with a number to call to talk to someone about this given the booking was made with them. Call center wouldn't answer after a reasonable wait (I assume Bali Belly) then asked on FB, they need business hours help...so will see tomorrow.
Car trawler tell me that the catch all at the top of the agreement clearly tells me the costs will go up and by how much.
[h=3]Additional fees:[/h]Additional costs such as refuelling fees or additional kilometers are not included in your rate. There are also additional charges if you return the vehicle at a different time, date or location from the original reservation. A premium location surcharge may apply to rentals from airports and other premium locations and the amount shown in the Rental Agreement is subject to GST and is adjusted when a Damage Liability Fee and, if applicable, a Single Vehicle Accident Liability Fee are payable.
I can't see how any person could think from that expect fees on the additional mileage, let alone work them out. I have lodge a complaint with Cartrawler and will see how that goes. Hope to at least get my damage insurance back.
Will do a booking on Europcar's site directly to see what that tells you in the conditions.
I assume all the majors do these fees on the additional mileage?
