Just got back from a great 8 very relaxing days in Nusa Dua. Everything about the ground part of the trip was positive, but the service getting there and back on VA was VERY average.
The Flygirl and I are Velocity members - she is Gold, I'm Red.
Until now, I'm note sure I put VA in the LCC status - their fares aren't much different to QF, and I didn't tend to think of them down in the Jet* category, but my impressions have changed now.
We were not able to select seats on either direct flight so on the way up we were in 24E/F. No IFE, no offer of IFE - OK I can live without that.
Came food time, and there were no sandwiches available, only pies, so we ordered pies. Oops, only 1 pie left, but we still have vego pies, so we had 1 meat and 1 vego pie. Put the pies and a beer and coke on AMEX just because I could!
Flight crew very average, not interested in anyone.
The trip home yesterday was a little different. Both bags were on the weight limit (I checked them before we left the hotel with my trusty Balanza) and at check in I was warned that we might need to pay extra. We had paid for an extra bag each, and I pointed this out to the check-in-chick who told me they weighed 22kg each. I said yes, and that was what I paid for! She then said it was OK, and the bags went down the chute. (Was this a potential upsell to grab more cash?)
The Flygirl then asked if there were any exit seats and we were lucky enough to get them (and as luck would have it, we had the 3 seats to ourselves).
The flight crew were a whole lot more friendly than the flight up, but THEY RAN OUT OF FOOD!
Whilst it was only a 4 1/2 hour flight home, I cannot believe how a flight can run out of food by row 13!!!!!!!!!!
So we had cheese and crackers ($4) and put them on AMEX as well.
I guess my point is that the airfare was not what I'd call cheap. and the benefit of a direct flight was what put us onto the VA flight, but I find it bad logistics management to not carry enough food to feed the masses on a flight - am I being overly critical?
