What are the best options for using QFF points to get from Adelaide to Tokyo.

To start with, welcome!

There don’t appear to be any direct services out of Adelaide to Japan, so the first step would be to get to a port that does. Basically anywhere up the East Coast depending on who you want to fly with, then you could look at Qantas or Jetstar most likely.

Welcome to AFF.

I recently did Jetstar Starclass from Cairns to Tokyo, using my points to get from Adelaide (via Sydney and Brisbane by choice) to cairns. I did this because between Sydney, Gold Coast and Cairns, starclass was cheapest from cairns and on the dates I wanted to fly the jetstar flights seemed to have a transit in Cairns. This was a good option for me to earn status at business rates fairly cheaply.

If status isn't important and you don't wish to pay for Starclass. Then your options are either from Sydney, Brisbane or Perth. For mine the best option would be from Sydney as there is the chance to get a 747. It terms of getting flights from Adelaide on points I would suggest checking both Adelaide to Tokyo in one and also Adelaide Sydney (or which ever other port) and Sydney Tokyo routes separately especially if looking for business class fares. This is because checking each leg separately might give more availability. Doing a booking for Adelaide to Tokyo (narita) will show you the range of options.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your assistance. As you have already seen and are about to see, I am very new to this. I have plenty of points to enable me to get there return for my wife and I.

The only site where I have tried to explore the options is on the Qantas site. However, if I wish to use my points using other airlines, e.g. Jetstar as you have suggested, where do I go to undertake that exploration/calculation all in one place?

Thanks again for assistance

Dont forget to have a look at anyseat awards, for a few points extra you get to earn points and status credits, for instance there is a J fare to NRT on 4th Nov 87000 points as an anyseat award which is 200SCs one way (well on the way to status with QF) and 12500 points, which means the real cost is 75000 points.

Jetstar point awards will be found on Qantas' site when searching, but if you were to take medhead’s advice, what he’s talking about is paying for a starClass fare (if you can find a reasonably good value one), and you’d find such a fare at Cheap flights - Jetstar Airways.

Fly CX from ADL-HKG and then CX from HKG-HND/NRT

CX commence flights to HND from October 31!

Plenty of Y and J award availability on all legs.

are you suggesting to use my QFF points on the cx flights. If so, where do I check that availability?

Yes, that is what I am suggesting.

Call Qantas that's probably the easiest. There are other ways to see CX award availability and these methods are covered in other threads on this forum.
But you'll still have to contact Qantas to book them anyway. Technically you could also book the HKG-NRT/HND legs on JAL.

A friend of mine booked Y using QFF points on JAL one way and QF the other.
Cost:
CBR-SYD-NRT-CTS (JAL) 50,000 points
NRT-SYD-CBR (QF) 36,000 points
Taxes approx $340
To book via phone 2,500 points additional
